Day 1

Nairobi - Lake Nakuru

You will be met upon arrival at the airport in Nairobi or picked up from your Nairobi city hotel. Drive north to Lake Nakuru National Park with game viewing en-route to Sarova Lion Hill for lunch. Later, you will go on an afternoon game drive.

Lake Nakuru is known as a Ramsar Bird Site, which was specifically founded for the protection of the black and white rhino. It is also a home for more than 450 species of birds, including the lesser and greater flamingos, pelicans, African fish eagles and many others. A safari to Lake Nakuru offers spotting four of the Big Five - leopard, lion, rhino and buffalo. Dinner and overnight will be at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge.

Day 2

Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara

Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara

After breakfast, drive further southwest through the floor of the Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara with a stopover at the home town of the Maasai herdsmen, Narok. Proceed to Masai Mara and arrive at Mara Sopa Lodge for lunch. Go on an afternoon game drive in the vast Mara plains in search of predators such as lions with dark manes, cheetahs, leopards and many herbivores, especially during the yearly wildebeest migration between July and September. Dinner and overnight are at Mara Simba Lodge.

Have a full day of safari in the Masai Mara. Depending on your choice, this day is dedicated to early morning, mid-morning and afternoon game drives or full-day game viewing. An optional visit to a Maasai village or balloon safaris can be organized locally. All meals and overnight are at Mara Simba Lodge.

Day 4

Masai Mara - Serengeti

Go on an early morning game drive and return for breakfast. Then, drive to the Isebania border, where you will complete your paperwork and exchange vehicles from Kenya to Tanzania. Meet your Tanzanian driver guides and proceed to Serengeti with a game drive en route to Serengeti Tortilis Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5

Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park

The whole day will be spent on a game drive in the Serengeti National Park. During the short rainy season in November and December, the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south, while during the longer rainy season from April to June, they return back up north. This circle of life is determined by the rainfalls, and the locations of the herds might vary from year to year, but your guide will know where to find the animals and where to see them best.

A visit to the Serengeti Visitor Centre is also possible. Here, you can learn more about the history of the park and the research that the Frankfurter Zoological Society is doing. You will spend another night at Serengeti Tortilis Camp.

Day 6

Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, you will continue your safari in the Serengeti National Park. In the Seronera Valley you might be lucky to see predators hunt as animals gather at the waters during the Dry season. After lunch at a picnic spot, you will slowly drive in the direction of the Ngorongoro Crater.

As soon as you have reached the crater, you will have a superb view of the caldera. This approximate 20km-wide crater is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to over 20,000 animals. You will stay at the Ngorongoro Tortilis Camp on the crater rim, from where you can enjoy an incredible sunset.

Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

Rise and shine! After an early breakfast, you will drive down the steep path into the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest, unbroken and unfolded caldera in the world, and it has an unbelievable diversity of wildlife. In addition to zebras and wildebeests, you might also spot the rare black rhino and other members of the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. The crater is also home to other animals such as hyenas, waterbucks, bushbucks, eland and more than 500 bird species.

After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch, you will leave the caldera in the early afternoon and drive back to Arusha.
