This river is formed by the confluence of the Kilombero and Luwegu Rivers. It is approximately 600 kilometres (370 mi) long and here you will see plentiful hippos and crocodiles. Large herds of Tanzanian elephants can be seen gathering around the shores of the River Rufiji that flows through the reserve. Some 350 bird species can also be found in the Selous Game Reserve. The reserve gets its name from the hunter and explorer Frederick Courtney Selous who was killed here during World War 1. Selous is famous for elephant, lion, wild dog, buffalo, bushbuck, impala, eland, baboon, zebra and greater kudu. Later in the evening, you will return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.
