On your arrival in the morning, you can expect your guide and mountain support crew to meet you for a short briefing. The briefing will help to brace yourself for what is to come so that you can enjoy the trek.
The briefing will be followed by a 3 to 4-hour travel towards the Kilimanjaro National Park’s Western entrance - Londorossi Gate at an elevation of nearly 2,200 meters. Here, you can acquire your climbing permits. You will need to register with the search and rescue services as part of the climbing formalities.
Your group will then set out towards the drop-off point via off-roading vehicles, reaching about 3,500 meters. The stunning Shira Plateau views become visible for the first time on your 7-day Kilimanjaro trek on the Lemosho Route.

Mti Mkubwa Camp - Shira 2
A light trek from the Shira 1 Camp (elevated at 3,505 meters) will take you towards the second high-altitude Shira 2 Camp at 3,900 meters. Thanks to the advantage of altitude, you’ll be able to enjoy the most spectacular views of Africa on this easy trek. View the diverse and unique flora species of Kilimanjaro while ascending.
Shira 2 Camp is the best to view the 5th summit of Africa – Mount Meru - out of all the locations on the 7-day Lemosho Route. You need to be lucky, however, for the weather to be conducive!
You’ll reach the camp for lunch, which can be followed by a 2-hour rest. Once you’ve rested adequately, you can complete the acclimatization hike towards the Lava Tower Camp. This hike will also help you gain a 200-meter advantage in altitude.

Shira 2 - Barranco Camp
Having gained the altitude advantage and acclimatized for the forthcoming trek, you can proceed towards the Lava Tower (at 4,630 meters) after breakfast. Amid a few bumps up and down the slope, you’ll tread towards the camp at an elevation of 4,600 meters. The bumpy road may be somewhat inconvenient, but you will need to spend at least a few hours here to acclimatize yourself altogether.
After having lunch here, you go downward to the Barranco Camp. The Barranco Wall will be seen from here. The steepness and massive size of the Barranco Wall may make you wonder about the trek ahead, but fret not. The stretch of the Lemosho Route ahead will be relatively easy!

Barranco Camp - Karanga Camp
It is advisable to wake up early, have breakfast and be ready on time so you can continue to wend your way ahead. If you start late, your schedule may fall behind due to the heavy crowds which can hinder your overall trek. The hike up the gorge wall won’t be challenging and will take only about an hour. On completing your ascension, you can rest for a while.
After a brief stop, brace yourself for challenges as you continue the hike toward Karanga Camp. Our skilled guides can minimize the complexities of your Mount Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route hike by choosing the best spots for your group. Most of the time, you’ll be unaffected by the downsides of the trek thanks to expert guidance.
You are likely to reach the camp in the afternoon where you’ll be served a hot lunch. It may be tempting to rest for some time, but we recommend completing the acclimatization hike towards the Barafu Camp (at 4,640 meters), with a 200-meter gain in altitude.

Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp
After the laborious trek the previous day, you can look forward to relatively comfortable mountaineering today. After a quick breakfast, you can trek towards Barafu Summit Camp. The camp lies as high as 4,640 meters and is the starting point for night climbing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters).
Before you arrive at the Barafu Camp, your camp will be set up with a tent and sleeping bags. When you reach it, all you need to do is provide your aching muscles with much-needed relief. Once you’ve rested well, you need to head towards the intermediate Kosovo Summit Camp for acclimatization.
You can look out for a hot dinner once you’re back at the Barafu Camp. Make sure you spend the remaining time resting and sleeping well, so you’re well prepared for the night summiting schedule ahead.
