Meet and greet at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport for the scheduled transfer to the lodge. The transfer takes about 4.5 hours and you will arrive at Mukambi Safari Lodge for afternoon tea. Settle in at the camp and experience a sunset boat cruise. Float down the Kafue River on a relaxing boat cruise and take in the magical scenery along the riverbank. From chortling hippos to thirsty elephants, there is always something to see. Return to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 2
Busanga Plains
Busanga Plains
Today, you depart Mukambi Safari Lodge and head by road to Busanga Plains where you will spend the next 3 nights. The transfer is a game drive, and upon arrival at Busanga Plains Camp, enjoy brunch followed by a tea break and your afternoon game drive. The unique wetland ecosystem covers 720km² of palm groves, papyrus-choked reed beds and lily-covered lagoons, supporting an abundance of African wildlife and bird species.
Look out for lion, cheetah, African buffalo, hippo, oribi, roan antelope, lechwe, zebra, blue wildebeest and large elephant herds. Busanga is a birder’s paradise with over 500 recorded species.

Day 3-4
Exploring the Plains
Exploring the Plains
Game drives depart from Busanga Plains camp daily. The first one departs at sunrise, and the afternoon (partly a night drive) leaves approximately 2 hours before sunset. Drives are 3.5 to 4 hours long. You will make your way across the open plains from camp. The beauty of drives here is the openness of the plains - it guarantees that you will see multiple species at once. It also means you can see some spectacular stalking by predators of the various types of antelope and the speed at which they run on open ground.
Back at camp, you can relax in the central communal area with views of expansive plains and tree-studded islands. Take a refreshing dip in the pool or sunbathe on the wooden deck while taking in the resplendent landscape. For even better views of the floodplain, climb onto the wooden viewing platform on stilts nestled in the characteristic fig tree above the boma.

Back to Kafue
Back to Kafue
After breakfast, you depart the camp to return to Mukambi Safari Lodge via a meandering game drive. Enjoy lunch at the lodge and relax or take part in the afternoon activity. As evening draws, enjoy a lovely chat around the campfire before retiring to the comfort of your room and the sounds of the African night.

Final Activities Before Departure
Final Activities Before Departure
Depending on your travel itinerary, morning activities can include a game drive or a guided bush walk in Kafue National Park. Alternatively, spend time on the river on a fishing trip or visit our community school. You will be transferred by road to Lusaka Airport for your onward journey.
