2 travelers on Start dateWhale Coast, Penguins, Cape Agulhas and Arniston
Depart from Cape Town along the blissfully beautiful whale route with a visit to historical Hermanus, Stoney Point Penguin Colony, Harold Porter Botanical Garden (inside a UNESCO world heritage site) and the Cheetah Project for immersive interactions with these beautiful, but critically endangered cats.
Arrive at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, which has a fascinating history rich in exploration, trade routes, & centuries of maritime navigation. Tools found in the Agulhas region date back to more than a million years ago, & are said to have been made in the Early Stone Age. Fish traps & middens found in the area also support the region’s long history as a fishing village, with the abundant waters & rich ocean currents attracting the San people.
Finally arriving in the little fishing village of Arniston, known as Waenhuiskrans ‘wagon shelter cliff’ after a large low-tide sea cave, eroded in such a way as to resemble the structures used by settlers to house their wagons.

De Hoop National Park
The Southern Right whale has made the De Hoop Reserve in South Africa one of the world’s best land based whale-watching areas. This marine protected area is a World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most important nurseries for this endangered mammal. During the winter months (June to November), Southern Right whales come so close to the shoreline that visitors can relax on the un-spoilt sand dunes and watch in awe as these beautiful creatures calve, blow, breach and belly-flop.
Return to Cape Town through the undulating Agulhas Plains National Park and over the Helderberg mountain range with stunning views of Cape Town, the oceans, winelands and its mountain ranges.
