Day 1

The Panorama Route

The Panorama Route

An early departure from Johannesburg as we travel east towards the Mpumalanga Province, passing through the open grasslands and agricultural areas of the “Highveld”. Our journey continues onto the Mpumalanga escarpment. We visit the many attractions along the Panorama Route, including God’s Window, the Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Graskop Gorge Lift and various waterfalls. The Panorama Route along the Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga is arguably one of the most beautiful and popular travel destinations in South Africa. It leads through the rugged mountain range of the northern Drakensberg. Breathtaking views and plunging waterfalls are marvelled at on the Panorama Route.
Here, in the northeastern part of the Great Escarpment, the inland plateau declines abruptly and steeply and opens up fantastic views of the plains of the Lowveld up to a thousand meters below. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our well-appointed accommodation in Graskop. Dinner will be enjoyed at the guesthouse.

After breakfast, we visit Bourkes Luck Potholes and the Three Rondawels lookout point over the Blyde River Canyon. The view from the lookout point is considered by many to be the finest along the Panorama Route. We then travel over the northern Drakensberg mountains and descend into the Lowveld via the Abel Erasmus Mountain Pass and arrive at Moholoholo Forest Camp in time for lunch. The forest camp is situated in a picturesque position underneath the towering cliffs of the escarpment.
Your stay will include three delicious meals, a game drive on the reserve, and a beautiful morning bush walk, where your experienced guide will introduce you to a wonderful world consisting of wild animals, birds and the signs, tracks and smells of the African bush, and to top it all, a visit to our world-renowned Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. An early wake-up call signals yet another exciting day in the African bush. This morning at sunrise, we will join a guided bush walk with a qualified field guide. This is a great opportunity to see some of the smaller creatures and plants up close, not to mention some of the larger wildlife in their own environment.
A hearty breakfast is enjoyed at Moholoholo Forest Camp on completion of the bushwalk. At around mid-day, you are dropped off at a luxury lodge in the Kapama Private Game Reserve which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park. Lunch is enjoyed before heading out on your first game drive in specially adapted open 4X4 vehicles under the expert guidance of a knowledgeable field guide.
