Nairobi - Masai Mara

Pick up from your Nairobi hotel/residence or Nairobi airport at 7:00 am. Depart for Masai Mara National Reserve via the Nairobi-Nakuru highway and enjoy a drive via typical African savanna country dotted with local homesteads and colorful Masai herdsmen grazing their cattle. Along the way, we shall have a brief stopover at the spectacular Great Rift Valley, which is a fault line some 3,500 miles (5,600km) long stretching from Ethiopia’s Red Sea through Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, and into Mozambique. We will arrive at camp with enough time to settle in before lunch with a little time to relax before we head out for our first game drive between 16:00 to 18:30. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Masai Mara Exploration

After breakfast, we have a full-day game drive, with packed lunch provided. The reserve is well known for its black-maned lion, as well as its abundant resident wildlife, and it's one of the few places where it's possible to see the big five during a morning's game drive. Many of the cheetahs are so tame they seek shelter from the hot sun under one's vehicle and several even climb onto the roof to get a better view of prospective prey. For the bird enthusiast, almost 500 species have been recorded: among these 16 species of eagle, plus many hawks and falcons, 6 species of vultures, 8 species of storks 4 of bustard (including the Kori bustard, the world's heaviest flying bird), and 9 species of sunbirds.
