You'll start at 6.30 am from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and drive to the Selous. After reaching Selous, start with an afternoon boat trip. Usually, the afternoon boat trip leaves camp at 4.00 pm and returns at 6.30 pm. It's an ideal trip if you would like to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Rufiji River with many hippos, crocodiles, and beautiful birdlife. The sunset can also be stunning from the boat. There is nothing quite like the serenity of the river while the sun dips below the horizon.
Rufiji is a large wide river with several lakes branching off it for you to explore, gaining a unique view of the river's largest inhabitants: crocodiles and hippos.
Boat safaris are also the best excursions for bird enthusiasts. Selous has over 350 bird species, and the river is the place where they congregate in great numbers and are easily seen in the open environment.
You might also want to try your luck with the ferocious tiger fish and weighty catfish that live in the waters in abundance.
