Nairobi - Samburu
You will be picked up from your hotel and driven past the equator to the northern frontier district (lunch will be eaten en-route). In the late afternoon you’ll arrive at the semi-arid Samburu National Reserve and check in at your lodge. There will be time to settle in before your safari adventure. After some rest, you will set out for a game drive. You’ll return to the lodge before dark. Dinner will be at the tented camp while your overnight stay will be at the lodge.
Samburu National Reserve is situated about 350 kms north of Nairobi in the semi-arid part of Kenya. Ewaso Nyiro River, the only water source in the dry season, bisects the reserve and is home to some of the biggest reptiles in the region. The area also attracts a good number of birds—close to 300 different species have already been recorded.

At 6:00am you’ll set out for an early morning game drive in the reserve. This is usually the most popular time for game viewing because the temperatures are lower, which makes for a favorable atmosphere for both the game and the safari-goer. Lion, cheetah, and leopard roam the vast grasslands in search of their next meal, which might include an unsuspecting impala or even a warthog. Whatever the players, the spectacle of nature unfolding is always inspiring! You'll be back at the camp by 8:30am to enjoy your sumptuous breakfast. Lunch in the camp will be at 12:30pm, then it’s time to relax by the river side watching crocodiles. Your afternoon game drive starts at 4:00pm. You’ll return before dark. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.

After an early morning breakfast, you’ll depart for Aderdare National Park. Aberdare is made up of an isolated volcanic range that forms the eastern wall of the rift valley, running roughly 100km north-south between Nairobi and Thompson's Falls. The soils are red and of volcanic origin, but rich in organic matter. There are two main peaks, Ol Donyo Lesatima (3,999m) and Kinangop (3,906m) separated by a long saddle of alpine moorland at over 3,000m. The topography is diverse, with deep ravines that cut through the forested eastern and western slopes. The unusual vegetation, rugged terrain, streams, and waterfalls combine to create an area of great scenic beauty. The park is surrounded by a predominantly indigenous forest. You’ll arrive at the Ark Lodge later in the afternoon. The ark has four viewing decks with balconies and lounges to provide superb game viewing from the comfort of the lodge. The animals come to you! Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.
