Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Today, you will be picked up from either the airport on your arrival or your hotel, depending on where you will be. Our guide will welcome you and share a brief of the program with you. You will take a short Kigali city tour exploring the major historic and cultural sites like the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, craft markets in Kigali, and Kandt National Museum, depending on the time. After visiting some of these sites, you will then have lunch at a restaurant. You can choose local food or continental meals, depending on your preference.

After lunch in Kigali city, we embark on the journey to the home of the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.

Gorilla Trekking & Gorilla Guardians Experience

Today you will meet the mountain gorillas in their habitat, deep in the Virunga ranges. Your guide will transfer you to the briefing place where you will be allocated a gorilla group to trek with. The trek can last from an hour to several hours, depending on where they nested the previous night. You need to be relatively fit to enjoy this experience. After locating them, you are allowed one hour with them before starting your trek back.

After the gorilla trekking experience, visit the Gorilla Guardians village. Some of the members of this cultural village are former poachers who depended on the forest. This cultural village contributes heavily to the conservation of the mountain gorillas because they are able to earn from sharing their culture as opposed to poaching.

Golden Monkey Trekking & Departure

Your tour guide will pick you after breakfast for the golden monkey trekking experience. You will start with briefing at the park headquarters and after you leave for the park. You are allowed 1 hour in the presence of the quick golden monkeys. After this experience, you will return to the lodge for a quick clean up and then leave for Kigali.
