Nairobi City - Samburu National Reserve

You will be picked up from the airport with a briefing, thereafter you will be driven north past the equator to the Northern Frontier district. Continue to the semi-arid Samburu National Reserve and check in at your campsite. There will be time to settle in before your safari adventure.

Samburu is also known for some rather unique wildlife not usually seen elsewhere. A visit to the reserve will offer you sightings of memorable species such as Grevy’s zebra, the reticulated giraffe, and the Beisa oryx. This is also one of the few parks where you have a good chance of spotting African wild dogs. On game drives over the savannah, through acacia forest and riverine vegetation, there will be numerous opportunities to view kingfisher, marabou, vulture, guinea fowl, Somali ostrich, egret, falcon, and eagle. Set out for an afternoon game drive in the reserve and return to the lodge before dark. Dinner and overnight will be at Samburu simba Lodge.

As you ascend the eastern wall of the Rift Valley, lush coffee and tea plantations reveal themselves and your driver-guide will give you a brief talk about coffee farming in Kenya.
