Durban to Tembe Elephant Park

The closest major airport to Tembe Elephant Park is King Shaka International Airport in Durban. From here, it is about a 3.5-hour drive to Tembe Elephant Park. The journey is easily accomplished as a self-drive in a rental car, although we can arrange transfers if you prefer.

Once you arrive at Tembe Elephant Lodge, the staff will take over. You can enjoy lunch before heading out on your first afternoon game drive to see the magnificent elephants.

Tembe Elephant Park

The day starts with a wake-up call before sunrise, so you can be out and about looking for predators before they find a quiet spot to sleep through the heat of the day. The morning game drive lasts for about 3 hours, with a stop for tea and coffee in the bush.

Once you return to camp, you will enjoy a cooked breakfast and some relaxation time. Grab a book and find a quiet spot to enjoy the bush. In the afternoon, you will enjoy high tea before setting off on another afternoon game drive, with a stop for sundowners. Return to camp at night for a scrumptious dinner, followed by drinks around the fireplace.

Tembe Elephant Park to Durban

Depending on when you must leave, there is a chance for a last game drive to try to find the animals that have so far eluded you. After that, you will drive back to King Shaka Airport in Durban to drop off the rental car. If you want to extend your trip in South Africa, we will be happy to help.
