7-Day Kalahari Expedition | Exploring the Kgalagadi Area

Leaving Upington for the grand Kalahari

Be welcomed by your guide at Upington in the morning. Depending on how your own plans work, we can collect you at the airport directly or at your place of accommodation.

We travel north along straight roads through the red dunes of the Kalahari sands. The roads here are used to test speed in vehicles, such is the good quality and straightness of them!

Arrive at the gates of the Park after about 2 hours, and check in. We usually enjoy a meal at the camp here, before enjoying an afternoon drive to our first camp for the trip. Urikaruus, is a small wilderness camp offering only 4 tented chalets, set on the dry Auob River, where game viewing and solitude is excellent. Settle in on arrival before sunset, and relax. We have a typical bush dinner over the fire this evening.

Exploring the Nossob River Area | Predator Territory

We enjoy an early morning safari searching north along the Auob river.

We return to camp, enjoying breakfast and packing up. We then travel across the dunes to the other major river in the Park, the Nossob River. Animals focus along these flat areas with regular waterholes along the way.

We arrive at Nossob Rest Camp, checking in and settling for the next 2 nights. With a hide/blind set right on the fence of the camp, there is an option to enjoy at leisure wildlife viewing without a vehicle! Also having a swimming pool, small shop, and predator centre there. We enjoy a short evening safari, before returning to camp for dinner.

The following day will be a typical day on safari, heading out for a morning game drive, returning for a large breakfast and relaxing at camp during the heat of the day, before we head out on a sunset drive in the later afternoon. It is possible to enjoy a night safari, searching for the more nocturnal animals of the land, at own expense.

Into the Dunes | Bitterpan Wilderness and 4x4 Trails

This morning enjoy a relaxed one, taking advantage of either a morning drive or spending some time at the local hide/blind overlooking the waterhole from camp. We enjoy breakfast, before heading out on our 4x4 trail through the wilderness to our next camp.

Bitterpan is situated overlooking a large, flat dry 'lake' and is set far from other camps with private roads. We arrive and settle in to relax. Spend the afternoon enjoying the facilities, or watching for wildlife. We enjoy a large fire and meal at the lounge area.

Exploring the Two Rivers

We enjoy a relaxed morning at Bitterpan, hoping for wildlife to come near camp to enjoy the low lying 'lake.' We enjoy breakfast, before packing up and heading off further into the dunes along beautiful 4x4 trails.

We shift to our final camp, near the confluence of the two major dry rivers in the Park, Twee Rivieren (meaning Two Rivers). We arrive at camp, check in and settle. Enjoy this larger camp with option walks around, a swimming pool, shop, restaurant, and information centre.

We enjoy an evening drive and return to camp for dinner. Optional night drive is again possible at own expense, and recommended to do at least once.

We enjoy another typical day on safari on Day 6, heading up both rivers to see what we can find!

Leaving the Kalahari

On our final morning, depending on your own itinerary or flight home, we can enjoy a morning game drive and breakfast at the Park. We head back the 2 or so hours to Upington where the tour ends with flights home or own itinerary.
