Day 1

Arrival in Nairobi

Arrival in Nairobi

When you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our local guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Nairobi for your first overnight stay. If Eka Hotel is unavailable for your dates, we will suggest something similar.

The hotel is conveniently located with access to great restaurants and all the city’s tourist attractions, such as Nairobi National Park, the Karen Blixen Museum, Bomas of Kenya, and the Giraffe Center.

If you've had a long international flight and prefer to relax at the hotel, there is a restaurant, a coffee shop, a bar, a gym, a swimming pool, a wellness centre, and gardens. Each superior room is air-conditioned and equipped with a flat-screen TV with satellite connection, complimentary Wi-Fi access, a mini-bar, an electronic safe, a tea and coffee station, a hairdryer, and a telephone.

The first night is on a bed-and-breakfast basis. Dinner is for your own account and can be booked at the hotel restaurant or any nearby restaurant of your choice.

Day 2

Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast in Nairobi (included), your guide will collect you from your hotel and drive you to Basecamp Masai Mara, an affordable camp on the banks of the Talek River near the entrance to the Masai Mara National Reserve. En route, you'll have plenty of time to discuss the itinerary and game-viewing expectations with your guide.

We arrive at our camp around lunchtime. After lunch, we head out on our first afternoon game drive in the Mara, which has an abundance of wildlife year-round. At sunset, we return to camp in time for a delicious dinner.

You will stay in one of 17 spacious canvas and mosquito-screened tents resting beneath thatched roofs on wooden platforms that face the Talek River. Each en-suite tent is fitted with a bio-flush toilet and solar-heated, open-air safari shower. Each unit has its own private balcony.

If Basecamp Masai Mara is unavailable for your dates, we will suggest something similar. A different camp may result in a difference in cost.

Day 3

On safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve

On safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve

The Masai Mara National Reserve, with its iconic vistas and endless horizons, is a photographer's and wildlife enthusiast's dream safari destination. For the next 3 days, we will explore all the Mara has to offer on fully guided game drives, using a specially designed 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and large windows for best visibility. The vehicle can seat up to 6 guests. This is a private safari with no other guests on board.

The Mara is known for its prolific wildlife, including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, hyena, and cheetah, as well as millions of wildebeest, zebra, and other antelope that sweep through the reserve during the great migration.

Peak migration season is usually from mid-July to early October, depending on the rains (each year differs). Outside of migration season, you will still see plenty of animals because the fertile plains of the Mara are home to an abundance of resident game.

Day 4

On safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve

On safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve

Spend another glorious day exploring the Masai Mara National Reserve with unlimited game drives, as discussed with your guide. You will have a highly experienced, knowledgeable, English-speaking driver-guide who understands what makes a safari special. Because we do not take new clients on board midway through a safari (as some other operators and many private lodges do), we can tailor the game drives to the group's needs and interests and focus on finding animals we have not seen yet. Every day is a new adventure, and you never know what you might find around the next corner!

Game drives are conducted between sunrise and sunset. We can head out after an early breakfast, take a packed lunch, stay out the whole day and return at sunset. Otherwise, we can do a morning and afternoon game drive, returning to camp for lunch. With no other guests on board, you have maximum flexibility.

On safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve

This is another day devoted to game viewing in the beautiful Masai Mara National Reserve. Meals can be enjoyed along the way (a packed breakfast or picnic lunch) or enjoyed back at camp.

Return to the lodge at sunset for dinner. Kindly note that the camp staff prepares meals, and your guide will not be joining you for meals at the lodge. If you would like your guide to join you for dinner or other meals, this can be arranged in advance but will cost extra.

If you request this tour and any of the properties are unavailable for your dates, we will aim to substitute the accommodation with a similar property for a similar price (known as a side-grade). It is also possible to upgrade to better or more luxurious accommodation on request (extra cost). Please note that any change of accommodation (side-grade or upgrade) may result in a different price.

You can ask to customize this trip, e.g., add additional nights or destinations (extra cost).
