6-Day Gonarezhou Slackpacking 11 July - 16 July 2025

• You'll be collected from the airport.
• Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged for an extra cost.

You will be collected from Bulawayo and driven to Gonarezhou national Park

Road transfer from Bulawayo to Gonarezhou takes about 7 hours. Once through the entrance gate we overnight at our start point for the trail. We have all our own food and camping equipment for this unique slackpacking safari. Our back up vehicle will carry all our gear when we move camp. That night we review our trail hike to prepare for the next day.
Participants must have comfortable hiking shoes and your own daypack.

Hiking down the Mwenezi River

We get up early and break camp ready for our discovery of this great park. We start by hiking along the Mwenezi River. Gonarezhou is home to many large mammals, which we are sure to encounter along our walk. We will also see signs of many different animals. Birdlife is prolific in the park and many water birds along the Mwenezi river.

Exploring Mwenezi River

We get up early and continue our discovery of this great park. We break camp and continue our journey exploring the river front as well as following ancient elephant paths through the unique Ironwood forests that make up some of the vegetation structure in the South of Gonarezhou. We are far from any roads and other people. Wilderness at its best. Immerse yourself in the remoteness. Enjoy the relief of not having to carry all your gear and the comfort of great meals cooked over a bush fire.

Mwenezi River

As usual, we up early and break camp and continue down the river. Sometimes we explore inland or follow game trails. The vegetation in the sector of Gonarezhou is unique. We look out for Pels fishing owl and some bat colonies that live in this rich landscape.

Mwenezi River Exploring

Once again up early. We take the chance to explore this more of this area, perhaps tracking animals and getting more familiar with this attractive spot. Game viewing is plentiful in this area. We will see elephants. Rare forest species are close by and worth taking a look at. The shy Nyala antelope inhabits this unique spot and we should get at chance to see it and many other different species.

Last day in Gonarezhou

Once again up early, break camp. We rendezvous with our transfer vehicle that takes us from the park back to Bulawayo.
Should you wish to transfer to Harare we can help arrange that. Road transfer is approximately 7 hours to Bulawayo.
