Bulawayo and Drive to Gonarezhou National Park
The road transfer from Bulawayo to Gonarezhou takes about 7 hours. Once through the entrance gate, you'll overnight at your start point for the trail. You have all your own food and camping equipment for this unique slackpacking safari. Your backup vehicle will carry all our gear when you move camp. That night, we'll review our trail hike to prepare for the next day.
Participants must have comfortable hiking shoes and their own daypack.

Day 2
Hiking Down the Mwenezi River
Hiking Down the Mwenezi River
You'll get up early and break camp, ready for our discovery of this great park. You'll start by hiking along the Mwenezi River. Gonarezhou is home to many large mammals, which we are sure to encounter along your walk. You will also see signs of many different animals. Birdlife is prolific in the park, and there are many water birds along the Mwenezi River.

Day 3
Exploring Mwenezi River
Exploring Mwenezi River
You'll get up early and continue your discovery of this great park. You'll break camp and continue your journey, exploring the riverfront as well as following ancient elephant paths through the unique Ironwood forests that make up some of the vegetation structure in the South of Gonarezhou. We are far from any roads and other people. Wilderness at its best. Immerse yourself in the remoteness. You'll enjoy the relief of not having to carry all your gear and the comfort of great meals cooked over a bush fire.

Day 4
Mwenezi River
Mwenezi River
As usual, you'll be up early, break camp, and continue down the river. Sometimes, you'll explore inland or follow game trails. The vegetation in the Gonarezhou is unique. You'll look out for Pels fishing owl and some bat colonies that live in this rich landscape.

Day 5
Mwenezi River Exploring
Mwenezi River Exploring
Once again, you'll be up early. You'll take the chance to explore more of this area, perhaps tracking animals and getting more familiar with this attractive spot. Game viewing is plentiful in this area. You will see elephants. Rare forest species are close by and worth taking a look at. The shy Nyala antelope inhabits this unique spot, and you should get a chance to see it and many other different species.

Day 6
Last Day in Gonarezhou
Last Day in Gonarezhou
Once again, you'll be up early and break camp. We rendezvous with our transfer vehicle that takes us from the park back to Bulawayo.
Should you wish to transfer to Harare we can help arrange that. Road transfer is approximately 7 hours to Bulawayo.
