Extending over 260sqkm, Lake Mburo is Uganda’s smallest savanna park. The park an underrated gem usually bypassed by many because of its low count on the “Big 5” but it is increasingly becoming an overnight spot to break the long journey between the southwest and Kampala. We shall drive about 4 hours to the park, check in at our lodge, and later in the afternoon go for a walk in the park. The walk gets you close to animals like impalas, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, as you walk with a ranger. We return to the lodge for an overnight.

Watching game in the unusual way, not the traditional game drive but a exploring on 2 wheels. We shall do a 2 hour safari on our own pace using mountain bikes and go off the beaten tracks and look for wildlife and learn more of details that are missed while in vehicles. After, we shall transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National park.

The zig zag outline the Virunga volcanoes dominates the southern part of the Kigezi Landscape. Today after breakfast, we shall ascend through the contrasting vegetation and search for the golden monkeys. The golden monkeys are the second best thing to do at Mgahinga after gorillas. After seeing these primates, we shall drive to Lake Mutanda and have a cruise on the lake before returning to the lodge.

The Batwa are a minority ethnic group in Uganda and Mgahinga is the epitome of the trail. We shall visit this Old People Of the Forest, walk with them on a trail through the park as they show you how they used to survive in the park before eviction and walk up the Ngarama caves. After the walk, we shall drive to the lodge for lunch. In case of a transfer, we shall transfer to the lodge.

Uganda’s single most important tourist hotspot is the 331sqk Bwindi forest that covers a rugged landscape of steep hills and valleys abutting the Congolese border south of Ishasha sector. The forest provides shelter to some of Africa’s diverse mammalian fauna that includes half population of mountain gorillas and the main activity here is gorilla tracking. Today we shall drive to the head offices of Bwindi Forest Park for orientation and briefing before we hit the trails for an amazing encounter with the mountain gorillas. The activity can last 3-8 hours depending on the location of gorillas. When your return, you receive your certificates and return to the lodge.

Queen Elizabeth national park is in the north of Bwindi. The first sector (Buhoma) is just 62km but Rushaga is a far distance. Today after breakfast, we shall drive to Queen Elizabeth’s national park, Ishasha sector which is famous for tree climbing lions. We shall drive through the eastern part of Bwindi, in Ruhija and arrive at the lodge in the afternoon. Have an overnight and await the morning for adventure and search for the tree climbing lions.

Ishasha is somewhat removed from the rest of the park and is famous for tree climbing lions. Mostly those intent on seeing the lions up in the tree, it usually happens during the heat of the day. After our breakfast, we shall set out for a drive and look out for the tree climbing lions (main target) and also see what the south plains have to give. After, we shall drive north and for a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel.

Today is a big game day in Queen Elizabeth National park. We shall have an early breakfast and drive to the Kasenyi plains for a morning game drive. The area is crisscrossed by a labyrinthine network of game viewing roads in the short-grass savanna and we shall drive through in search of resident lion prides, leopards, elephants, herds of kobs, buffaloes, singing birds, and others of the 95 mammals in the park. After, we shall leave for Kibale Forest. We shall have lunch en route.

The highlight of any visit to Kibale is Chimpanzee tracking excursion that leave twice a day at 8.00am and 14.00pm. We shall opt for a morning walk in the forest for chimpanzee tracking and this will be after our breakfast. Chimpanzees are well habituated and allow approach within 8-10m of individuals that will be feeding and others grooming. Guides will lead you after briefing takes a maximum of about 4 hours including the 1 hour you are allowed for watching. You can carry your packed lunch. After lunch, we shall have an afternoon walk at Bigodi community walk, which will give you an understanding of the communities around the park and also chances for watching the life outside the park.

Transfer to Murchison falls National Park

We have an early breakfast and check out for our transfer to Murchison Falls National park. It is a long drive but scenic as it goes through the floor of the rift valley past the Lake Albert. We shall have lunch en route and depending on our arrival time, we shall visit the top of the falls. Continue to the lodge for an overnight.

Day 12

The bulk of the park’s wildlife is concentrated to the northern bank and there are established circuits of tracks for game drives. We shall drive through in search of wildlife from the lion prides here, leopards, hippos, elephants, hyenas, kobs, warthogs, among others. After we return to the lodge for lunch before the boat safari. Boat safaris start from Paraa following the Victoria Nile east or west. We shall do a 3 hour return launch trip to the base of the falls eastwards along the archetypically stretch of the Nile before docking on a stone bay few meters away from the gashing waterfall. The wild and birdlife is reliably stunning. After return and meet your guide before returning to the lodge.

Transfer to Kampala via Ziwa Rhino sanctuary

After breakfast, we check out and drive to Kampala. We shall have a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for on foot Rhino tracking. Rhinos are vulnerable and the only place in Uganda where one can see them in a wild setting is at this sanctuary. We shall have a guided walk and encounter the rhinos. After have lunch and continue to Kampala, arriving late evening.

Today we shall have tour around the city and visit some key areas. We shall visit the Old Kampala mosque, the Buganda kingdom palace and parliament, the Uganda museum and have a local dish for lunch. After you visit the local craft market if you would like to have some souvenirs. We shall after transfer to the airport for the exit flight.
