After an early breakfast, you will collect a packed lunch and drive towards Ngorongoro Crater. The crater is one of the largest intact volcanic calderas in the world, offering fabulous game viewing and being the only such place in Africa. Large grazing animals such as wildebeest, buffalo, gazelle and zebra that depend on the open grasslands are in the crater, attracting predators, such as the black-maned lion, leopard and hyena. The elephants found are lone males. A soda lake attracts waterbirds, including flamingos and is a suitable place for predators to make their kill. Wildly beautiful as it is, it is not surprising that the Ngorongoro Crater has been called a Garden of Eden.
