Day 1

Nairobi to Lake Ellis

Nairobi to Lake Ellis

We pick you up from your hotel in Nairobi in the early morning and proceed to the Chogoria Gate at Mount Kenya from where the climbing starts. We follow the track through giant heather and forest via the Chogoria Road and head to where the path drops to cross a stream to Nithi Falls. Here, you will enjoy the magical roar of the Nithi Falls, each drop gushing over the rocks. The views are amazing. The falls have a beautiful serenity pool at the bottom, and clear water plunging down the mountain. This is a wonderful motivation to move up to the picnic area where lunch will be served.

We then proceed to the right to Mugi Hills with magical views of Table Mountain. We descend to Lake Ellis which will be our home for the night. Nothing beats the feeling of spending a night next to a lake and a night full of stars. This is already a special experience since not many people get to spend a night on this lake. Lake Ellis lies at 3,470m above sea level.

Lake Ellis Camp - Camp Mintos (4200m) - Distance: 9km - Max elevation gain: 800m

After breakfast, we set out on our journey through the heather and moorland to Camp Mintos on a relatively steep trail. You can expect breathtaking views along the way. We continue our trek through a rocky, steep stretch. Altitude sickness symptoms may start appearing at this point, therefore, we will maintain a very moderate pace the rest of the way. If heights don’t scare you, you will have the opportunity to catch a beautiful glimpse of the entire Lake Michaelson from a cliff. After a 4km walk, you will have lunch on the way - carefully prepared by our professional chef.

Hike for another 2 hours to reach your final destination, Camp Mintos. Here, you will give your feet a well-deserved break by letting them breathe. Feel free to slip on your sandals or walk on bare feet around the beautiful Mintos Tarn. Later on, we will have our dinner and retire early in preparation for conquering the summit early in the morning.

Lake Naivasha - Masai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast, you will head out for a boat ride on Lake Naivasha and later proceed to the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will drive into Maasai land, tracing the Rift Valley escarpment and wide open plains before stopping at the Maasai town of Narok. From here, you will make your way into the park, arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive.

This is one of Kenya’s most-visited reserves due to its extraordinary wildlife density, including the “Big Five” and many other varieties of plains game. The Mara River cuts through the Mara and Serengeti ecosystems, giving life to both reserves before finally pouring out into Lake Victoria. Impressive and most notable are the wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle that migrate by instinct from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya. This journey is coupled with numerous obstacles, which makes it even more magnificent.
