The Serengeti National Park is the largest park on the northern circuit of Tanzania which is originated from a Maasai word “Siringet” meaning endless plains. The park covers approximately 25,000 km2 which harbour the largest remaining unaltered animal migration in the world where over one million wildebeest plus hundreds of thousands of other ungulates engage in a 1,000 km long annual circular trek.
The park consists of animals such as buffalos, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, warthogs, jackals, hartebeests etc. The northern part of Serengeti is hillier and rocky. To the west on the Grumeti, valleys, rivers and forest can be found. Serengeti has 'kopjes', granite outcrops rising up from the plains.
