In the morning, we'll pick you up from your hotel and head to Marangu gate, a journey of about 2 hours and 30 minutes. After this process, we'll proceed to Kilema gate.
The first part of the route covers a distance of 16 kilometers, and your guide, equipped with a mountain bike, will accompany you. This route starts at Kilema gate (1950 meters) and leads to Horombo hut (3705 meters). Cyclists with excellent fitness, mountain biking skills, and favorable road conditions may be able to cycle all the way to Horombo Hut. It's crucial to remember that ascending too quickly can lead to altitude sickness. To allow your body to acclimatize to higher altitudes, we'll make regular stops along the way, with our ultimate goal being to reach Horombo hut while prioritizing your safety and well-being.
Horombo Huts - Mawenzi - Back to Horombo Huts
On day two, acclimatization takes center stage, and it is highly advisable to embark on a hike all the way to Mawenzi Hut to facilitate proper acclimatization. This strategic move significantly enhances your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak, offering you the magnificent vistas of Kibo as your reward. The importance of this acclimatization should not be underestimated as it greatly improves your likelihood of successfully reaching the summit.
After a leisurely breakfast, you'll embark on a 4-hour trek to the Zebra Rocks (4020m), named after the distinctive black and white stripes adorning this rock formation. Upon your return to Horombo Hut, a hearty lunch will await you. The afternoon offers a chance to relax and rejuvenate, ensuring you regain your strength for the upcoming hike on the following day.

Horombo Huts - Kibo Huts
After breakfast, meet your guide as we head back up to Kibo hut. The first 3 kilometers will require porters' assistance due to the challenging terrain, with the final 7 kilometers offering a more bike-friendly trail. Lunch will be enjoyed at Kibo hut, followed by a period of rest.
Around 16:00, you can opt for a partial hike up the summit path to get to know the route for the summit attempt later that night. Kibo hut, situated in the Alpine desert, is a stone-built blockhouse equipped with bunk beds for up to 60 climbers, but water sources are not nearby. Platform toilets are available behind the hut.
The summit, known as Uhuru Peak, lies an additional 1195m higher, and your ultimate ascent will occur during the upcoming night. It's crucial to prepare your equipment, including thermal clothing, for the summit bid. This includes changing headlamp and camera batteries and ensuring you have spare batteries on hand. To prevent freezing, consider carrying your water in a thermal flask.

Kibo Huts - Horombo Huts
At 4 a.m., your guides will wake you up for the zigzag trek up the long scree slope. After about two hours, you should reach Hans Meyer's Cave, and from there, the terrain becomes steeper. Continue your climb for another three hours until you reach Gilman's Point. Here, you'll retrieve your bike from porters and start riding towards Uhuru Peak. Upon reaching Uhuru Peak, take a few moments to soak in the accomplishment, and have your photo taken at the summit.
From Uhuru Peak, begin your descent. Stop for lunch and rest at Kibo before continuing on to the Horombo encampment. The initial part of this climb is in the dark and requires the use of headlamps or flashlights. It will be quite cold until you start descending, so ensure you have all your warm layers. This section of the trek is the most challenging, with numerous switchbacks. Taking it slow and maintaining a positive attitude will get you through it.

Horombo Huts - Kilema Gate - Marangu Huts - Moshi
After breakfast, embark on your final ride down to Kilema Gate, passing through the alpine and rainforest zones. Once at Kilema gate, you'll be transferred to Marangu gate for check-out. A vehicle will meet you at Marangu gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi. Remember to show your appreciation to your guides and porters. It's time for celebration!
