On Arrival

Upon your arrival, you will find our company representative at the airport ready and waiting for you. You will recognize him with the special board written with your name on it. You will be transferred directly to your accommodation in Arusha while the guide will share details of our beautiful country on the way.

You will check in at your hotel and have some time to rest. Later, you will be shown around Arusha City and visit the local markets, the Maasai market, the Cultural Heritage Museum and the Arusha City Museum.

Momella Gate - Miriakamba Hut

After breakfast in the hotel at Arusha, we drive to the Momella Gate. After a short registration at the gate, our walk will begin with a fully-armed ranger escorting us. Along the route, we will see wild animals including zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes, and often elephants.

Dinner and overnight will be at Miriakamba Hut.

Miriakamba Hut - Saddle Hut

The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short but steep climb. The walk will take us slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone.

After a hot lunch at Saddle Hut, we make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m) for superb views just before sunset.

Dinner and overnight will be at Saddle Hut.

Saddle Hut - Summit - Miriakamba Hut to Arusha

We start early at around 01:30 am to climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800m) and on to Cobra Point (4,350m). We reach the summit (4,566m) in time for sunrise. There is also the possibility to see Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. The final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridgeline between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater.

We take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent through open grassland and mixed forest, with the possibility of seeing wildlife before reaching Momella Gate in the late morning. Later, you will be dropped off at your accommodation in Arusha.

Hiking time: 6 hours to the summit and then 2-3 hours from Miriakamba to Momella Gate.
