Karatu to Serengeti National Park

After wonderful hospitality from the lodge, you will drive to Serengeti National Park with your lunch box for a great wildlife experience. The name Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word siringit, meaning “endless plains.” It is an accurate description considering the whole ecosystem stretches over 12,000 sq. mi (30,000 sq. km).

The Serengeti is home to the world’s largest movement of animals, often called the “great migration.” Enjoy your lunch box, and then continue with the game drive before heading to Serengeti Pure Tented Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Full day in Serengeti National Park

Full day in Serengeti National Park

We have a full-day game drive in Serengeti National Park. More than 1.7 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra, and 200,000 antelope make their way from the Ndutu region of the Southern Serengeti northward through the whole length of the “endless plains” to Kenya’s Masai Mara. This is a total of 500 mi (800km). This cyclical migration begins in March (after the annual birthing of the calves at Ndutu in February) and ends with their return in January, following the annual cycle of rains and fresh grasses. During this time, around 250,000 wildebeest alone die from thirst, hunger, exhaustion, and predation.

The great migration of the Serengeti was selected in 2013 as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. Enjoy your lunch box, continue with the game drive, and later head to Kati Kati Camp for dinner and overnight.

Full-day game drive in Serengeti National Park

After a gorgeous evening with fantastic food, you will have an early breakfast and a game drive at Serengeti Central. On this day, you have the option of a balloon safari at an extra cost.

The best-known feature of the Serengeti is the almost treeless grassland in the south. It has kopjes which are granite formations that serve as observation posts for predators. The Volcanic Grasslands is an edaphic plant community that grows on soils derived from volcanic ash from nearby volcanos on the pair of rivers of Grumeti and Mbalageti. There are big groups of riverine forests and some small mountain ranges. The great migration passes through the corridor from May to July and it stretches to Lake Victoria. The area is flatter than the northern parts of the park and more densely covered with plants than the southern plains. Enjoy your lunch box, continue with the game drive, and head to Kati Kati Camp for dinner and overnight.
