Johannesburg and Soweto – Cycle or Walking tour
After our meet and greet around 08h00 am we drive the short distance to the largest informal settlement in South Africa – Soweto. It is here where we meet our guide that will take us on a ride or stride through the streets of this vibrant tourist hub that offers unique sightseeing options and also the opportunity to visit the famous house in which former President Nelson Mandela lived. This guided tour will take you through the local community, teach you more about city life and will offer you a locally prepared potjie kos (pot food) with side dishes at the end of your experience.
After your local lunch we continue our drive further west to an area of equal importance – the Cradle of Humankind.
We settle in to the lodge where we will spend the next two nights.

Cradle of Humankind
Today we go back to our roots! The Cradle of Humankind is a paleoanthropological site and is located about 50 km northwest of Johannesburg, South Africa, in the Gauteng province. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999, the site is home to the largest concentration of human ancestral remains anywhere in the world.
The caves in which Mrs Ples and numerous other ancestral fossils of early hominids were found and still today delivers some of the world’s oldest and most intact fossils and bones ever discovered.
Bring out the explorer in you and take a journey underground to experience and understand the Cradle of Humankind and the Sterkfontein Caves as well as pay a visit to the Maropeng Visitors and Display Centre, where the fossil discoveries and findings in and around the caves are very well presented and displayed.
After exploring both these fascinating sites we will enjoy our lunch and then head back to our accommodation for the night.
