Mweka Camp (3080 m) – Mweka Gate (1630 m) – Moshi

Summit Uhuru Peak and Descend to Mweka Camp starts in the midnight hours with a cup of tea and a biscuit. Dressed warmly and geared with a headlight and your day pack, you set off in the darkness. After 5-7 hours of ‘pole pole’, you will reach Stella Point, the rim of the crater. From here, it's another one to two hours of going slowly along the crater’s edge to arrive at the summit – Uhuru Peak at 5895 meters. Standing at the Roof of Africa, you'll look down over the surrounding landscape in the early morning light. The descent to Barafu Camp should be easy but dusty due to the defrosted volcanic ash. Final Descent to Mweka Gate marks the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure. After breakfast, you will continue the descent to Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, the trail can be wet and muddy, so using gaiters and trekking poles will help.
