Day 1

Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

Our driver-guide will pick you up from JKIA or your hotel and drive through Mombasa towards Amboseli National Park with an en-route game drive to arrive in time for lunch. After lunch, go on a late afternoon game drive in the park.

The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to wild elephants among other wildlife species. Its other attractions include opportunities to meet the Maasai people and the spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Here, the elephants are the kings of the park without a doubt. They are fond of the swamp areas where they share the cool waters with the hippos and hide beneath the papyrus. The park is also home to a large resident population of Burchell’s zebras. Other herbivores include Thomson’s and Grant's gazelle, buffalo, warthog, Maasai giraffe, impala, waterbuck and dik-dik.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Amboseli National Park - Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, check out and proceed toward Nakuru through Nairobi with lunch on the way. The travel time is approximately 7 hours. You will drive through the Rift Valley and enjoy the fascinating views of the escarpment. You will arrive at the park late in the afternoon. You can relax before you set out for an evening game-viewing drive.

The park was established to protect the lake and its large flocks of lesser flamingo, which are drawn to the algae that flourish in the saline waters of this soda lake. The national park is inhabited by over 50 mammal species including hippo, black and white rhino, Rothschild's giraffe, buffalo and eland. Known as a bird watcher’s paradise, the park is home to over 450 bird species. Visitors can look forward to hiking through the scenic landscape, picnicking next to this magnificent lake and spotting an array of wildlife on a game drive. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the beautiful Makalia Waterfall. Return for dinner and overnight.

You will settle into your tent and enjoy lunch while looking into the Masai Mara Reserve.

At around 4 pm, you will meet your guide for your afternoon game drive. As the temperature cools in the late afternoon, the predators of the Mara start preparing for their evening hunt. For the big cats (lions, cheetahs and leopards) the migration season is a time of abundance.

As the sun sets, you will return to the camp for dinner followed by stargazing and story-time around the fireplace. When you’re ready, one of the Maasai night guards – known as Askaris – will escort you back to your room.
