Forest Camp - Shira 1 Camp
On this day, our trek will progress along the path that exits the woodland and traverses a savannah characterized by towering grasses, heather, and volcanic rocks festooned with lichen. As we ascend the undulating hillsides, we will cross numerous streams en route to the Shira Ridge. Following that, we will gradually descend towards Shira 1 Camp, where we will be treated to a spectacular view of Kibo across the plateau.
Shira Camp 1 - Moir Hut
After breakfast, you will proceed with your hike, ascending across the expansive Shira plateau to reach Shira Camp 2 at an altitude of 3,850 meters. At this juncture, you will converge with trekkers from the Machame Route and relish breathtaking views of the valley beneath and the western breach of Kilimanjaro above. As the plateau is exposed, brace yourself for robust winds and sub-zero temperatures during the early hours of the day.

Moir Hut - Lava Tower - Barranco Camp
On the fourth day, your trek will proceed through a barren landscape towards Lava Tower and the Shark's Tooth formation at an altitude of 4,600 meters. Following lunch at Lava Tower, you will connect with the Southern Circuit trail, which descends towards Barranco Camp (3,900 meters). Here, you will spend the night at an elevation similar to the previous night.
Ascending to higher elevations during the day and returning to lower altitudes to sleep is an effective method for acclimatizing the body to altitude changes.

Barranco Camp - Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp
After breakfast, we will depart from Barranco and proceed along a steep ridge, passing the Barranco Wall en route to the Karanga Valley campsite. After reaching Karanga, we will arrive at the junction that links up with the Mweka Trail. Once we reach Barafu Hut, we will have completed the South Circuit, which affords panoramic views of the summit from various perspectives.
At this point, we will establish camp, take a breather, savor dinner, and ready ourselves for summit day. From this vantage point, the two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are visible.
Barafu camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka
You will wake up around 1130pm, and after some tea and biscuits, start climbing to Uhuru peak into the early morning. You will head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. At Stella Point (5685m) you will stop for a short rest and be rewarded with perhaps the most beautiful sunrise you will ever see. The time spent on the summit will depend on the weather conditions. Do not stop here for too long, as it will be extremely difficult to start again due to cold and fatigue.
You will walk back to Barafu from the summit. Here you will have a well-earned (but short) rest and collect the rest of your gear before heading down to Mweka Hut (3100m). Be sure to enjoy your accomplishment and a day to remember for the rest of your life.

After an early and well-deserved breakfast, we will embark on a brief (three-hour) and picturesque hike back to the park gate. Upon arrival, you will register your name and pertinent information in a logbook. This is also the location where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. Climbers who attain Stella Point (5,685 meters) are issued green certificates, whereas those who reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) are awarded gold certificates.
Afterward, your driver will meet you at the Mweka Gate and transport you to the airport for your departure.
