To Volcanoes National Park

Today, your guide will meet you at the hotel or place of stay, and we leave Kigali, for Volcanoes National Park. Arrive at about 2-hours check in at our lodge, and later visit the Musanze caves. These date back to over 60 million years, we shall take a tour into the caves, learn about the history about the caves and genocide times and their formation. We shall after return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Hike to the camp

Today morning you will begin the day early at around 5 a.m. and then transfer to the park headquarters found at Kinigi where you will be briefed about this amazing adventure. After this the hike will begin led by a professional guide and accompanied by two armed ranges one heading at the front while the other at the back. During the hike which may take approximately 7 hours your hiking pace will depend on the physical fitness of the slower hiker on the hiking team. You will traverse the amazing landscapes on the slopes of this mountain during which you will encounter a variety of wildlife including birds, golden monkeys and if lucky you may be able to encounter the Karisimbi mountain gorilla family that lives within the lower slopes of this mountain. Eventually you will arrive at the camping area where you will pitch tent and spend the night. Because it is very cold up on the mountain you are highly advised to bring with you enough warm clothing and bedding.

Descend Mt Karisimbi

After an early breakfast today you will enjoy the breathtaking sunrise as well as the views of the great lakes from up the summit. In addition you will enjoy views of the other mountains that make up the Virunga Volcanoes, see the cultivated farmlands below and local settlements in a distance away. The views here are very breathtaking so don’t forget your camera on this adventure. Later you will descend back to the bottom and be received by your Safari guide-driver who will then transfer you to lodge.

Gorilla tracking and visit the gorilla guardians village

Golden monkey tracking and transfer to Lake Kivu

Spend a morning trekking to find the golden monkeys in the Volcanoes National Park. These endangered monkeys are endemic to the Albertine Rift area and are characterized by their golden-orange fur. You’ll be able to enjoy an hour watching them jump through the bamboo and hunker down to chew bamboo leaves, curiously watching you, as you watch them.
Your driver-guide from Kigali will operate your transfers to the park headquarters and introduce you to your trekking group and parks guide. After drive to Lake Kivu and have an overnight there.

Explore Lake Kivu and back to Kigali

Explore Lake Kivu before your return to Kigali. The scenery at the lodge is amazing, you can decide to take a boat cruise on the lake in the morning and return for a transfer to Kigali city. Your guide will drop you at the airport or hotel depending on the agreement for the last day.
This will be the end of the safari.
