Embark on the climb to the summit in the early hours of the morning, between midnight and 2am. The trail is steep and covered in heavy scree or snow, leading to Gilman's point on the crater rim. Continue ascending to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, and savor the incredible views. Take a picture at the summit to share with loved ones. Descend from the peak, pause for lunch and rest at Kibo, and then head to the Horombo encampment.
The initial part of this climb is done in darkness and requires headlamps or flashlights. It will be extremely cold until the descent begins, so ensure you have all your warm layers.
