Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park + Sunset Boat Trip

Today you leave Dar Es Salaam and your guide will drive you to Nyerere National Park. After about 5 hrs, you will reach the Rujifi River that runs through Nyerere which you will explore by boat.

During the 2-3 hrs boat tour you can see lots of hippos, birds, crocodiles, monkeys, smaller animals like lizards and a beautiful sunset from one of the little islands/sandbanks on the river. From these sandbanks you can still see the animals and enjoy a little stroll around or a drink.

There is nothing quite like the serenity of the river while the sun dips below the horizon.

Nyerere National Park

Nyerere national parkin southern Tanzania is one of the largest game reserves in the world – it is even bigger than Denmark! It has a large number of wildlife such as lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, Masai giraffes and many more! With a bit of luck you can even spot the endangered black rhino or the hard-to-find East African wild dogs.

It is a lot quieter here than in the other parks, so you can enjoy a unique and undisturbed safari experience! The Rufiji that ends in the Indian Ocean crosses the entire reserve. Around this river there is a swampy area that crocodiles love. The Stiegler Gorge is a special attraction here. This is a gorge 100 meters deep and 100 meters wide.

Nyerere is also one of the few national parks where you can go on a walking safari with an armed ranger. If you prefer this, we can arrange it for you. But also in the car you can enjoy the landscape to the fullest and spot many animals!

Nyere National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, we’ll depart on a game drive with packed lunches in hand. You can expect to see lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, and hyena (among others).

You will also see a large variety of birds and wonderful scenery with varied topography, including wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia forest, and higher ground with vast views of far-off mountains.

You’ll eat lunch in the afternoon and rest before finishing your game drive and returning to the lodge.

Nyerere National Park - Dar Es Salaam

In the morning you can make another game drive or walking safari (optional) in the park, depending on your schedule if you have a flight on this last day. Then your driver transfers you to the airport for your departure flight and on day 5 you will arrive back home. Other than airport drop off will be in Dar Es Salaam where it all started.

You like to extend your safari to visit more national parks or with a beach holiday. Tanzania offers perfect paradises to unwind after your safari, such as Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia.
