Admire the Impressive Landscape around Lake Natron

After having your breakfast at Africa Safari Lake Manyara, it is time to continue your safari adventure! Today, you will enjoy a road trip to Lake Natron. The drive will take up to 4 hours and will take you along the ever-changing landscapes of Tanzania. From the lush green vegetation around the Great Rift Valley, the environment will slowly change into dry, arid and dusty landscapes. The closer you get to Lake Natron, the more you will see remains of old volcanoes rise around you, it seems almost unearth-like! You will drive by one of the few active volcanoes—Ol Doinyo Lengai, which means "The Mountain of God" in the Masai language.

Today, you will explore the surroundings of Lake Natron by joining a Masai guided walk to or a walk to the Ngare Sero Waterfalls. This hike will take either 30 minutes or up to 2 hours, depending on whether you want to take the adventurous route through the river or the newly paved pathway along the side. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring your swimsuit as you will get the chance to take a refreshing dip once you arrive at the waterfall!

Flamingos and a Masai Boma

This morning, our Masai guide will take you on a walk around the shores of Lake Natron in search of the lesser flamingo. Lake Natron is the most important and regular breeding site for lesser flamingos in East Africa, and during the breeding season, Lake Natron hosts up to 2.5 million flamingos. Around midday, you will depart from Lake Natron and enjoy a safari game drive to Ololosokwan, where you will spend the night at Africa Safari Maasai Boma. This accommodation is inspired by the traditional Masai bomas, which you will encounter along the way, and will give you a unique experience of their culture in a comfortable way.

Into the Bush for Walking and Night Game Drive

Enjoy a leisurely morning around the campgrounds, read a book on the patio or simply make the most of having some downtime. This afternoon, you will be going on a walking safari. It is a unique experience where you will have the opportunity to explore new territory and follow the animals on foot, accompanied by an armed ranger. The walking safari takes approximately 2 hours and ends with a sundowner overlooking the Serengeti. Then, return to the accommodation for a quick dinner as you will join in on a thrilling adventure—a night game drive! A spotlight is fitted to the vehicle, and before you know it, you catch the first reflections of the animal’s eyes. The night is another world altogether, with interesting behaviour from the nocturnal animals, different shades and shadows, and unknown sounds. Typical animals of the night are bushbabies, civets, genet cats, and porcupines. Upon return, perhaps a nightcap to warm up before retiring to your room for a good rest.

Your last safari game drive is to the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater. Be sure to wake up early today so there is no delay on your descent to the crater. When arriving at the edge of the crater, you will take in the fantastic view over one of the natural wonders of the world. The crater of this inactive volcano is approximately 3 million years old, 20 square kilometres in size and the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world. Due to its natural borders, the wildlife in the crater is amazing. The crater is home to the Big Five and offers an excellent chance to spot the rare black rhino. Throw hyena, zebra, buffalo and elephants into the mix, and you have the perfect canvas for a pretty awesome safari experience.
