Day 1

Pick up in Arusha - Tarangire National Park

Pick up in Arusha - Tarangire National Park

You will be picked up from your hotel at Arusha at 8am and take you to a very special national park. Tarangire is famous for its diverse landscape with nine different vegetation zones. The park is particularly known for the abundance of Ancient Baobab trees (the largest trees in the continent) which fill the landscape and dwarf the animals next to them. The river of the park is full of wildlife ranging from a large variety of birds to lions, leopards, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and, of course, elephants. In fact, the park has the largest concentration of elephants in the whole country and provides unique chances to observe the interaction between elephant families.

The lunch area is fascinating, boasting an observatory with amazing views to the river and wildlife (with good chances of seeing a hunt while having your picnic). In the afternoon we will still do a game drive before heading to the lodge (around 5pm to 6pm is the return time).

Tarangire - Ndutu Wildebeest Migration

After breakfast you will depart with a picnic lunch in hand towards the Ngorongoro Ndutu Area. Upon your arrival at the NCAA gate, you will take care of the park formalities and fees before making your way to your game drive in Ngorongoro Ndutu Area. From December to May, depending on the rains, the plains of Ndutu are populated by huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope as they settle on the fertile grasslands to calve. As is to be expected of nature, the predators come in droves too, feasting on the vulnerable young. It's a smorgasbord of wildlife and the natural circle of life.

During the dry season, the plains empty out as the herds move off in search of better water and grazing. There is plenty of resident game though that don't follow the migration, including giraffe, elephant, hyena and antelope which tend to concentrate around the waterholes. All six cat species can be found in the area throughout the year; lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal, serval and African wildcat.
