1-Day Mabamba Bay Swamp and Shoebill Tour

Our guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Entebbe or the airport and transfer you to Mabamba Bay. After the tour, the guide will transfer you back to your accommodation.

The Mabamba Bay wetland is famous for the resident shoebill, the most sought-after bird by birdwatchers in Uganda. The shoebill is also on the wildlife list of non-bird-watching tourists who are intrigued by its peculiar looks and massive size. This rare bird is found in a few places in Uganda, and Mabamba Bay is the most accessible and reliable, with the best chances of encountering the bird in the whole of Africa. Mabamba Bay is rich in lungfish (called "mamba" in the native language), which is the shoebill's favourite food. However, the lungfish is also one of the most sought-after fish by the local fishermen, creating competition between man and bird.
