Ngorongoro Crater Rim and Game Drive Ndutu Area
The southeastern part of the Serengeti, known as the Ndutu area, boasts abundant wildlife throughout the year. Wildlife numbers peak between December and April, as large herds of wildebeests and zebras are drawn to the area by the seasonal rains. Most calves are born in January and February, around 8,000 per day. The short grass plains offer them relative safety, as predators are more easily spotted. Nevertheless, as happens in nature, these young wildebeest attract many hungry predators, such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas. Other species, such as gazelles and zebras, also give birth, using the wildebeest calves as a diversion from their own young. Additionally, the area is a haven for birdwatchers. The thorny tree forests are the habitat of various birds, and if you pay attention, you may see the brilliantly colored Fischer's lovebird.
