You will depart for the greatest medieval city in sub-Saharan Africa. The Great Zimbabwe ruins (UNESCO) are impressive, built over hundreds of years between the 11th and 14th centuries. The site is massive, covering almost 1800 acres, and includes some incredible architectural details in the staircases, interlocking walls, granite boulders, and mortar-less walls. The site also includes a small museum with houses, artifacts, displays of building techniques, and a history of the site. The modern state takes its present name, Zimbabwe, from this national monument. Later that afternoon, you will have a tour of the ruins.

In the morning, you will be transferred to Matobo National Parks for 2 nights at Matobo Hills Lodge. Matobo Hills Lodge is situated within a private wildlife reserve bordering Matobo National Park (323km). Matobo Hills is an area of exquisite beauty. The lodge's accommodation units are built upon a granite outcrop with sweeping panoramic views over the surrounding hills. Please note that you can choose what to do for the afternoon but it all comes at an extra cost.

Soon after breakfast, you will do the Matopo tour. Matobo National Park is 423 sq km and has approximately 3,000 sans (bushman) art paintings, some more than 15,000 years old. Today's excitement starts with a morning hike to see some of these impressive, ancient San paintings. You'll later visit the grave of Cecil John Rhodes. Zimbabwe, known as Rhodesia, up until 1979, was named after Rhodes. In the afternoon, you'll enjoy a game drive and search on foot for resident black and white rhinos with your knowledgeable professional guide.

You will be picked up from Matobo Hills Lodge to Hwange National Park. Our guides will help you check in at Hwange Safari Lodge. Hwange is renowned for its huge tuskers—big old bulls with magnificent tusks. It is also here that the famous Presidential Herd drinks. These elephants’ home range is amongst the dense feeding areas of the Sikumi Vlei where they find refuge from the scorching heat at Ivory’s water hole.

You will enjoy a full-day game drive to explore the superb wildlife in the park. You'll set out very early in the morning and late afternoon as these are the best times for wildlife viewing as the animals are most active during the cooler times and often rest during the heat of midday. A packed lunch will be served at a picnic site in the bush.

Hwange ranks among the top national parks in Africa in terms of size, diversity and quantity of game. Big game includes lion, leopard, buffalo and some of Africa’s largest elephant herds. In the expert hands of our guides, you’ll find yourself heading out through the acacia-fringed grassy vleis and the teak forests in search of Hwange’s Big Five. Soon after the morning game drive, you will say goodbye to Hwange National Park and transfer in an air-conditioned van to Victoria Falls for your 2-night stay at Ilala Lodge Hotel on bed and breakfast. The transfer will be approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. Later that afternoon, you will be picked up for a dinner cruise along the mighty Zambezi River. In the evening, you will enjoy the dinner at the cruise.

Day 9

At 7:30 a.m., you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to Chobe National Park in Botswana. You will go to the Kazungula border where the Botswana guide will meet you. From there, you'll proceed straight to the river where you will spend the morning game viewing along the Chobe River. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. All your luggage will be loaded in a back-up vehicle and our driver guide will help you to check in after the full-day tour. The morning cruise ends at around 12.30 pm and you will then be taken to a hotel on the riverbank for lunch. After lunch, you will board a safari vehicle for an afternoon game drive in the Chobe National Park where you will have the opportunity to enjoy an abundance of wildlife. After the game drive, you will be transferred to your hotel and do the check-in process.

Please note: Depending on the previous night’s sightings, the order of the activities might change, i.e. start with a game drive and finish with the boat cruise.

You will do a morning game drive at 5:30 a.m. The pick-up time is early so that we enhance the chances of seeing cats when they will still be hunting. The game drive will take 3 hours, which will allow more opportunity to see wildlife which includes elephants, antelopes, buffalos, impalas, and many others. Tea is served during the game drive. After the activity, you will have their breakfast at the lodge.

You will drive to Elephant Sands Lodge which is approximately 260 km from Kasane. The lodge is located in the park which is home to elephants as the name suggests. On arrival, you will check in and in the afternoon you'll do a game drive either in the private concession or the park, depending on the guide's recommendation.

You will arrive at the Planet Baobab Lodge in Gweta early morning. You will drive across the vast grasslands, past lonely baobab sentinels to the edge of Ntwetwe Saltpan. Along the way, your guide will explain the incredible adaptations of the species that are unique to the Kalahari Desert environment. You will head off with your guide to explore the surroundings in search of bat-eared foxes, ground squirrels, and other unique desert species. Learn of their incredible struggle against the elements of Africa’s harshest wilderness. You will get up close and personal with a resident gang of habituated meerkats; see how these incredibly social, superbly adapted animals interact with each other and their environment. You also get the chance to view the desert through the eyes of a meerkats. In the green season, you may be lucky enough to see the zebra and wildebeest of Africa’s second-largest migration.
