Excursions - Hominid Footprints & Ngare Sero Waterfall

The Engaresero Footprint Site, situated to the south of Lake Natron and 13 km away from Africa Safari Lake Natron, has been reported to host one of the best-preserved sets of fossilized hominid footprints in the world. However, until now, there has been no detailed characterization and age determination of the footprint-bearing strata (the Footprint Tuff). The over 400 footprints are between 5,000 to 19,000 years old and came to scientists’ attention in 2008. They cover a cordoned-off area slightly larger than a tennis court.

You will visit the Ngare Sero Waterfalls. The moderate 2-hour hike along the western edge of Lake Natron leads to a series of narrow gorges and waterfalls of the Ngare Sero River, where you actually can swim in slot canyons! You will be accompanied by a Maasai guide from the local cultural center. This is quite a refreshing activity after a hot day on Lake Natron as the area is both arid and wet at the same time, and lush with wild palms growing above the gorge.

Excursion - Flamingo Lake Walk

The Rift Valley’s Lake Natron is the chosen mating ground of the endangered lesser flamingo. To most other living creatures, Lake Natron is hell on earth but the long-legged waterfowl flourishes here. The lake’s steeply alkaline waters are unattractive to small birds, while the lake flats provide a variety of environments for birds that do well in the alkali oasis. The best time to spot birds at Lake Natron is when the flamingos of Natron lay their eggs - normally during the end of the dry season between September and October. The hatching starts in the early parts of the wet season and climaxes by December. Join a Maasai guide for a Flamingo Walk and walk up to the lake.

You will also see lions in the trees as well as flamingos at the lake. This is an opportunity to spot the unique famous tree-climbing lions. Spend another night Africa Safari Lake Manyara.

Game Drive - Ngorongoro Crater

Today, we’ll wake up early in the morning and after breakfast, we will drive into the amazing Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact crater in the world. The crater is estimated to house 30,000 large mammals. Due to its natural borders, there is an abundance of wildlife throughout the conservation area, which is home to the Big Five, including the African Black Rhino, as well as hyenas, zebras, and elephants, to name a few. Overnight in Africa Safari Karatu, and enjoy the 180-degree views of the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Game Drive - Tarangire National Park

It’s time to head to Tarangire! During the 1.5-hour drive, you will enjoy the view of the beautiful nature, landscapes, and local communities. We’ll do a full day game drive in Tarangire which is famous for its large numbers of elephants, baobab trees and tree climbing African pythons.

After this amazing day, you will drive back to Arusha, where you can relax in the pool.
