Today we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Arusha for a tour of the Materuni Waterfalls. This is an excellent excursion for people who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The walk to the waterfalls offers a glimpse into Tanzania’s nature while giving you a bit of a workout ahead of your safari.
The tour starts in the coffee plantations of the local Chagga people, where the villagers will demonstrate some of the processes involved in coffee farming and handling. You’ll have a chance to participate in preparing the coffee beans and making your own coffee. The following walk to the Materuni Waterfalls is an opportunity to see how local fruit (including avocados, mangos, lemons, and bananas) grows, as well as learn some of the local history and traditions. A swim in the waters beneath the falls and a picnic lunch will conclude the tour.

Arusha National Park
In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Arusha National Park, which has an incredible variety of flora and fauna. Your day trip will include a visit to the Ngurdoto Crater. Buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, zebras, baboons, and a variety of bird species can be seen year-round. At the Momella Gate, a ranger will be waiting for you to accompany you on your walking safari. This will give you the opportunity to experience the wildlife up-close. Only a few other national parks in Tanzania give you such an opportunity and it is something that should not be missed. Lunch will be eaten at a picnic site. In the afternoon, you will continue your tour of the park. Later you will return to the camp for dinner and your overnight stay.

Tarangire National Park
We will collect you at your Arusha hotel early in the morning and then transfer you to Tarangire National Park. We’ll arrive at the picnic site in time for a pleasant lunch around noon. Your afternoon game drive will reveal all the wonders of Tarangire, a park that is often referred to as the “elephant playground.” Herds of up to 300 of these mighty mammals are sometimes seen here. In addition to elephant herds, Tarangire is home to buffalo, lion, wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle. Lake Burungi’s marshy shores lure many of these mammals and bird species. Look out for giant kingfishers, hoopoes, and the delightfully named white-bellied go-away bird. Tarangire is also noted for its splendid baobab trees, rolling savannah, and acacia woodland. At the end of an inspiring afternoon amongst the wildlife, we’ll retire to the campsite for dinner and your overnight stay.

Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater is often referred to as a natural wonder of the world, and your early morning game drive will show you why. First, there’s the volcanic caldera (the world’s largest) full of grassland, forest, and swamp—a jaw-dropping setting. Second, the permanent water on the crater floor supports a resident population of more than 25,000 large mammals. Here you’ll find many of the reasons you chose to come on safari: elephant, lion, leopard, hyena, jackal, wallowing hippo, waterbuck, baboon, and even the rare black rhino.
Sharing this awesome space with the animals are the Maasai people who graze their cattle in an area that has been a separate conservation area since 1956 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. This harmonious co-habitation of man and beast makes Ngorongoro unique in Tanzania, and your driver guide will be pleased to explain this incredible co-existence to you.

Lake Manyara National Park
Today we’ll drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game drives. This is one of Tanzania’s smaller parks, but it still offers a rewarding and diverse safari experience. The lakeshore teems with birdlife, and while you are looking for the birds, you might spot one of the elusive tree-climbing lions! There are a surprising number of other large mammals, while the striking cliffs on the Rift escarpment form a dramatic backdrop.
The tour ends in at Arusha at 1530hrs. You can only depart on this day if you have booked a domestic flight that departs from Kilimanjaro International Airport at 1740hrs (and onwards) or an international flight that departs at 1900hrs (and onwards). Otherwise, you will need to book an additional night of accommodations.
