Day 2

Arusha to Serengeti National Park

Arusha to Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, you will depart from Arusha and travel towards the most famous national park in the world, the Serengeti. Although the drive is long, it is spectacular! You will drive up the crater highlands, making a quick stop at the rim for an out-of-this-world view of the Ngorongoro Crater. The sights are unforgettable for anyone seeing it for the first time!

As you progress towards the Serengeti, you will see why the name means, in the local language, 'endless plains.' The size of the park is more than 18,000km² (6,900mi²), and for most of it, the grassy plains stretch into the horizon, defying your senses and perception of distances. It is the home of the great migration and 2 million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebras, and all kinds of antelopes, including the abundant impalas and Thomson's gazelle. As for big cats and large predators, it is the place of choice to look out for lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas.

Main Destination:

Best Time To Visit January to February and June to October (Different areas are best at different times)

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

This morning, you will gently wind your way through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, seeing more wildlife along the way (it is common to see a journey of giraffes on the lush slopes). You should reach the crater by lunchtime.

When you first see the Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness of sweeping savannahs, pockets of acacia woodland, and glistening lakes and swamps. The crater was created when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. The drive down the crater is an adventure in itself, and when you reach the crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The crater provides the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands.

After an afternoon game drive, you will drive to your accommodation in Karatu.

Best Time To Visit June to October (Wildlife viewing is best)

Karatu to Tarangire National Park

Karatu to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we will set out for Tarangire National Park. Tarangire National Park, well known for its large elephant herds, is also host to a multitude of other wildlife. From the open roof of our state-of-the-art safari Jeep, we will encounter seasonal swamps, savannahs, and the life-giving Tarangire River. We will endeavor to see a multitude of wildlife, from zebra to wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, and giraffe, to name a few. It is possible to glimpse lions stalking prey or leopards watching, relaxing in the trees above.

After our extensive game drive, where we experienced the varied sights and sounds of the wilderness, we will head back to Arusha or drop you off at the airport.

We decided to finish with Tarangire so it would be easier to be dropped off at the airport on time.
