Day 1

Nairobi - Amboseli National Park

Nairobi - Amboseli National Park

Leave for Amboseli in the morning and check in at your accommodation upon arrival. Amboseli National Park is situated south of Nairobi. Most of the park consists of a dry, ancient lakebed and fragile grassland with patches of acacia woodland.

In the southern area, there are a number of small, rocky, volcanic hills. Around the swamps of Ol Tukai and Enkongo Narok, the vegetation is lush with yellow-barked acacias and phoenix palms. The park is known as the best place to view large herds of elephants up close. There is an immense view of Mount Kilimanjaro across the border of Kenya and Tanzania. It is also dominated by the vast Lake Amboseli, which is dry outside the rainy season. There are more than 600 species of birds in the park. You will spend the night at the lodge.

Full day at Amboseli National Park

You'll rise early for good views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build up over the summit, and a packed lunch will be provided. An optional visit to a Maasai village can be planned after breakfast (at an extra cost). The visit reveals the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience.

Despite its changing habitat, Amboseli National Park is possibly the best wildlife area in Africa to experience elephants at close range. Left carefree, elephants feeding and bathing in the swamps must form the highlights of any safari. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.

Rise early for an exciting game drive with magnificent views of the snowcapped Mount Kilimanjaro in the background. Return to the lodge for breakfast, then depart for Tsavo West, arriving for lunch. The park is set with gently rolling plains, the picturesque Taita hills and lava flows, all in a plateau dotted with acacia, scrub, and bushland.

The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including the famed Tsavo elephants, rhinos, leopards, cheetahs and lions. In the afternoon, head out for a game drive. If time allows, visit the Mzima Springs, a series of natural springs with large populations of hippos and crocodiles. Then, return to the lodge in the evening for rest, dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Tsavo West NP - Tsavo East NP

After an early morning game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast. Thereafter, depart for Tsavo East National Park and enjoy a short en-route game drive as you drive to arrive for lunch.

The park is the extension of Tsavo West. It is home to the larger mammals, including the "red elephants", so called due to them wetting their skin and rolling around in the red soil to protect their skin from the sun and the bugs. The park has rhinos, lions, leopards, pods of hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, lesser kudus, gerenuks, and a prolific birdlife of about 500 species. The park is also famous for the Lugard Falls, which spills into rapids and crocodile-filled pools.

In the afternoon, we have another exciting game drive until sunset. Dinner and overnight are at the camp.
