Ngorongoro Crater is a stunning wildlife sanctuary, featuring a unique environment. The lush grasslands and permanent water sources within the crater floor support a resident population of approximately 20,000 to 25,000 large mammals. These animals are not confined by the crater walls and are free to leave, yet they choose to stay due to the favorable conditions. Grazing species like wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, buffaloes, elands, and kongoni (Coke's hartebeest), as well as warthogs, dominate the grassy terrain. The swamp and forest areas offer additional resources for hippos, majestic elephants with large tusks, waterbucks, reedbucks, bushbucks, baboons, coffer and some of Tanzania's last surviving black rhinos.
