Day 1

Zanzibar to ngorongoro crater

Zanzibar to ngorongoro crater

In the morning, you will fly from Zanzibar to Arusha where you will meet and drive to Ngorongoro Crater. The estimated driving distance is 2 hours. Often called the eighth Natural Wonder of the World, the Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact crater in the world.

About 2 million years ago the Ngorongoro volcano erupted, and its walls collapsed. The volcano floor sank to create a natural enclosure with its 600m tall walls. Now, over 19km wide, the Ngorongoro Crater is filled with great areas of acacia forest, hippo-filled swamps, and open grasslands.

These different habitats contain over 30,000 animals including elephants, warthogs, flamingoes, magnificent birdlife, the rare black rhinoceros, and all predatory cats.

The Maasai can also be seen grazing their cattle alongside the buffalo and wildebeest. You will have lunch with the crater and then in the late evening, you will be taken to the place where you will have your dinner and spend your night.

Tarangire national park

Tarangire national park

After your morning meal, you'll set off for an exciting game drive in Tarangire National Park. Covering an expansive area of nearly 3,000 square kilometers, this park is renowned for its impressive elephant populations and iconic baobab trees. Its name is derived from the meandering Tarangire River that gracefully traverses its landscape.

Tarangire truly comes to life during the dry season (June - November), with wildlife concentrations that rival even the renowned Serengeti. This period sees massive herds of elephants and various other animals gravitating toward the Tarangire River, their primary source of water. The park's diverse habitats and the constant flow of the Tarangire River have made it home to over 2,000 elephants and a staggering 500 bird species.

Amidst this breathtaking backdrop, you'll enjoy a delectable lunch. Later in the day, your journey continues as you return to Arusha and proceed to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back to Zanzibar.
