Day 1

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Today, your safari guide will pick you up from Arusha (pickup point to be advised) and drive you to Tarangire National Park. As you journey through the Maasai plains with scattered acacia trees, you'll see many Maasai in their colorful attire grazing cattle, riding bicycles, and donkey carts.
Upon arrival at Tarangire National Park, you'll embark on a game drive. Spanning almost 3,000 sq km, Tarangire is renowned for its large elephant herds and iconic baobab trees. The park is named after the Tarangire River, which flows through it. During the dry season (June - November), the wildlife concentration here rivals that of the Serengeti, as animals are drawn to the river, the only water source. Tarangire is home to over 2,000 elephants and 500 bird species.
Your overnight stay will be at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge.

Often called the Eighth Natural Wonder of the World, the Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact crater in the world. About 2 million years ago the Ngorongoro volcano erupted, and its walls collapsed. The volcano floor sank to create a natural enclosure with 600m tall walls. Now, at over 19 kilometers wide, Ngorongoro Crater is filled with great areas of acacia forest, hippo-filled swamps, and open grasslands. These different habitats contain over 30,000 animals —including elephants, warthogs, flamingoes, magnificent birdlife, the rare black rhinoceros, and all the predatory cats. The Maasai can also be seen grazing their cattle alongside the buffalos and wildebeests.
