Karatu – Lake Natron
Following breakfast, we depart from Karatu and head towards Lake Natron. As we journey through the Rift Valley, you'll observe the transition from lush greenery to dry, arid, and dusty landscapes. The occasional Maasai villages along the way become small dots in the distant scenery. Moving further north, you'll encounter the remnants of old volcanoes, with OlDoinyoLengai, translating to 'Mountain of God' in the Maasai dialect, standing prominently among them.
Our drive continues until we reach the gates of Lake Natron. Upon arrival, there's an opportunity for a brief stroll around the lake area to take in the surroundings.

Lake Natron - Arusha
After our morning meal, we'll embark on a guided stroll by the lake to admire its scenic beauty and the captivating sight of flamingos gracefully inhabiting the waters. Lake Natron stands out as a crucial and consistent breeding ground for lesser flamingos in East Africa. During the breeding season, which typically spans from September to April, the lake becomes a bustling home to as many as 2.5 million flamingos. The primary period for egg-laying and hatching is from October to early December.
While the lake provides an ideal environment for the flourishing of these long-legged waterfowl, it poses significant challenges for other creatures, particularly small birds. The harsh conditions make survival an arduous task. Despite this, the Lake Flats offer diverse habitats that support bird species thriving in the alkaline oasis.
Later in the day, you'll have the opportunity to engage in hunting activities with the local community.
