Welcome to Namibia! A driver from the car rental company will meet you at the airport’s arrivals hall and transfer you to the rental depot in Windhoek. We will meet you here to assist with the vehicle collection and ensure you have all you need to start your Namibian self-drive adventure.

You'll drive a short distance to your hotel, where you can drop your bags and relax after your long flight. At 2:00 p.m., a driver will pick you up from your hotel for a 3-hour Windhoek City Tour. This fun tour gives historical context to Windhoek’s buildings and an insight into the lively culture of Windhoek’s informal township, Katatura.

For the best views over Windhoek, we recommend sundowners on the veranda of Heinitzburg Castle before you enjoy dinner at a restaurant near your accommodation.

Day 2

Today, your journey begins as you depart Windhoek, heading south towards the Namib Desert. Along this scenic route, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring vistas as you descend the Naukluft escarpment. Depending on the time you depart Windhoek, you may arrive at your accommodation in time for lunch (not included). You'll enjoy the afternoon relaxing at the lodge or join a guided activity like the popular scenic sundowner drive.

You'll enjoy the beautiful views over the Namib landscapes before sitting down for a delicious dinner. When you walk to your room, you'll marvel at the clarity of the stars. Travel time from Windhoek to the lodge is approximately 4 hours.

Exploring the Sossusvlei Dunes

This morning is an early start to grab a light breakfast (remember to arrange this with the lodge) before departing the lodge for the Sesriem gate into the Namib Naukluft Park. This gate opens at sunrise, and you might find a queue of cars waiting to enter the park. Register your entry at the gate and drive the 60km to the Sossusvlei dunes.

This route to the dunes is a well-maintained tar road, except for the last few kilometers of sandy tracks. Sossusvlei will be on your right, and the parking and route to Deadvlei will be on your left. It is best to visit Deadvlei before the day gets too hot. If you're feeling energetic, we recommend the climb up the crest of Big Daddy Dune. The panoramic views over the sand sea are spectacular.

You'll visit the Sesriem Canyon before you exit the park and return to your accommodation.

Day 4

Sesriem - Swakopmund

Sesriem - Swakopmund

After breakfast, you'll shake the Sossusvlei sand out of your shoes and head further north to the icy water of the Atlantic Ocean. You'll stop at Solitaire to refuel and sample some famous apple pie. Your route crosses the Tropic of Capricorn and winds through the Kuiseb Canyon. You'll stop at the scenic lookout points en route to appreciate the unique landscape.

You'll reach the port town of Walvisbay first. Keep following the coastal road north to Swakopmund. You'll arrive in Swakop during the afternoon. You'll arrive in Swakopmund in the afternoon and stroll through this lovely, small town or relax before choosing a restaurant for dinner.

Travel time from Sesriem to Swakopmund is approximately 4h30.

Day 5

Namibian Coast

Namibian Coast

You'll drive the short distance, along the coast, to Walvisbay. You'll start the day on a high note with a cruise in the Walvisbay Harbour, where you'll spot seals, dolphins, pelicans and flamingos. If you're fortunate, you might spot whales and sunfish.

After the cruise, you'll return to the Waterfront, where you will meet your experienced guide and embark on an epic 4x4 adventure through the dunes of the Namib Naukluft Park to Sandwich Harbour. The route to Sandwich Harbour depends on the tides. It may run along the beach, past the Lange Wand, before you head through the dune belt to a scenic lookout point from where you can see the whole Sandwich Harbour estuary. A light lunch platter is served in the dunes with various "finger" foods, sparkling wine and other beverages.

In the late afternoon, you'll return to Swakopmund. After freshening up, you'll decide on a restaurant for dinner.

Day 6

Swakopmund - Etosha National Park

You'll enjoy an early breakfast and stock up on water and snacks before you drive from Swakopmund to Etosha. You can navigate via the otherworldly Moon landscape and Goanikontes Oasis and join the tar road via Usakos, Karibib, and Omaruru.

Upon reaching the Etosha Lodge, you'll unwind and rejuvenate following your extensive day of travel. If time allows, you can do a late afternoon Etosha game drive. You'll return to the lodge and savour a captivating sundowner experience while gazing upon the Mopane woodland, immersing yourself in the evening fragrances and the soothing symphony of the bush before indulging in dinner.

Travel time from Swakopmund to Etosha is approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes.

Exploring Etosha National Park

A full day of game viewing await. You'll leave early to enjoy the cool morning air and frequent animal sightings. Etosha is truly an untamed wilderness, and although animal sightings are never guaranteed, each visit to the park brings unique and rewarding experiences.

You'll visit some of the many waterholes that dot the side of the massive salt pan. Despite being one of Africa's largest national parks, Etosha is easy to drive around as all roads lead back to the main road. The lookout point affords splendid views of the huge Etosha Pan. For respite from the midday heat, pause at Halali for lunch and a well-deserved break. Later in the afternoon, you'll resume your wildlife-viewing adventures. You'll continue north and finally exit the park through the Von Lindequist gate.

The travel distance through the park is approximately 180km, and you can complete it at your own pace. Just remember, the park's speed limit is set at a comfortable 60 km/h.

You'll begin your day with a hearty breakfast. Then, you'll embark on a morning game drive in Etosha, guided by the expertise of your lodge's knowledgeable guide. These guides possess in-depth local knowledge and are skilled at pinpointing the specific locations where various animals can be observed. In particular, the park's northern section frequently offers thrilling lion sightings.

After your game drive, you'll return to the lodge for a leisurely lunch and some well-deserved rest during the peak of the day's heat. Later, you can venture back into the park using your vehicle or luxuriate in the lodge's amenities, creating a perfectly flexible and enjoyable afternoon.

You'll enjoy a delicious dinner before turning in for a good night's rest.

Your journey south begins today. You will travel through the small towns of Tsumeb, Otavi, and Otjiwarongo before finally arriving at the Okonjati Private Game Reserve.

You'll relish the African Safari flair of the surroundings, and the busy waterhole in front of the lodge offers excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities. Dinner is served in the superb restaurant, followed by a thrilling lion-feeding experience to round off the exciting day.

The duration of travel from Etosha to Otjiwa typically is approximately 4 hours.

You'll enjoy breakfast and continue your journey southward to Windhoek. You'll visit the Namibia Craft Centre to acquire authentic local souvenirs. Afterwards, you will return your rental car to the depot.

A transfer will be arranged to take you to the airport for check-in ahead of your connecting flight. The travel duration between Otjiwa and Windhoek typically spans around 3 hours.
