Tarangire National Park

We leave Arusha for Tarangire National Park. This park, covering approximately 2,600 square kilometers (1,000 square miles), is spectacular in the dry season when many migratory wildlife species return to the permanent waters of the Tarangire River. Vast herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, eland, and oryx gather to stay in Tarangire until the onset of the rains when they migrate again to good grazing areas.

The park's name comes from the Tarangire River, which crosses through it and is the only source of water for the wild animals during the dry season. The park is famous for its large numbers of elephants, baobab trees, and tree-climbing African pythons.

Serengeti is a World Heritage Site that spans an impressive area of around 15,000 square kilometers (5,800 square miles). It is home to over 2 million herbivores, 4,000 lions, 1,000 leopards, 550 cheetahs, and some 500 bird species. The park's vastness and the sheer number of wildlife species will leave you in awe. The Serengeti hosts massive herds of migratory wildebeest and zebra during the dry season. However, the Northern Serengeti also supports an abundance of resident wildlife, including lion, elephant, hippo, giraffe, crocodile, and the rare oribi antelope.

The crater floor also has one of the highest carnivore densities in the world, ensuring an exciting wildlife-viewing experience. Lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals are commonly seen, while leopards, servals, and bat-eared foxes may be spotted with some luck.

The crater is the world's largest caldera, formed after an explosion approximately 2 million years ago. The crater floor is home to many species of animals and a great variety of birds.
