Liuwa Plain
After breakfast, you will be taken to Kalabo, where Liuwa Camp will collect you, and you will have an afternoon game drive.
Liuwa Plain in western Zambia has one of the oldest conservation histories in Africa. It dates back to the late 19th century when the King of Barotseland appointed his people as the reserve's custodians.
Liuwa Plain highlights: Wildebeest have increased steadily, making Liuwa’s annual wildebeest migration the second largest in Africa. The lion population continues to grow. In 2022, 16 individuals were counted, thanks to 3 litters born in that year. Liuwa is the largest employer in the region, with more than 95% of its workforce being residents. Over 230 school children have received scholarships annually, and more than 4,000 local farmers have benefited from skills training and human-wildlife mitigation tools.

Liuwa Camp
Today, you will go on a morning and afternoon/evening game drive.
Liuwa Plain hosts Africa's second-largest wildebeest migration (without the crowds), so you can enjoy this spectacle in an intimate, jaw-dropping setting.
Liuwa was home to the famous Lady Liuwa, a famous lioness who was the sole survivor after all the lions had been poached. Today, due to reintroduction efforts, she left behind a small but growing pride of lions after passing in 2017.
Liuwa’s wildlife diversity is stunning. Along with the spectacular wildebeest migration, there are cheetah, hyena, lion, eland, tsessebe and an incredible array of birds, including the wattled crane.

Liuwa to Kafue National Park
Today, you will drive from Liuwa Camp to Mukambi Safari Lodge, which is approximately an 8-hour drive. Kafue is all about the diversity of wildlife.
Kafue is home to more species of ungulate than any national park south of the Congo Basin. Rare and elusive antelope such as blue- and yellow-backed duiker occur in the thickets, sitatunga and lechwe in the swamps, and roan, sable and hartebeest in the miombo woodlands.
The park is one of the best places in Africa to find leopards. In certain areas and at certain times, they are often seen, especially on night drives (allowed in Kafue) and even from afternoon boat cruises along the Kafue River in the hotter months when they come down to drink.
Cheetahs are found throughout Kafue, from Nanzhila in the south to Busanga in the north.
The African wild dog is a highly sought-after sighting. These exceptionally rare and elusive predators have the largest population of this species compared to any other national park in Africa.
