Ngorongoro Crater
This morning, you'll descend into the crater, arriving ahead of most visitors — thanks to the ideal location of your accommodations on the crater’s rim —you'll descend into the crater floor for the half-day crater tour. There are only two roads that connect the crater rim with the crater floor, One for driving down, One for driving up, and another that goes both ways. The crater is roughly 20 km/12 miles wide and 600 m/2,000 ft deep. Once you’ve reached the top of the caldera, it takes about 45 minutes to descend to the crater floor. The floor is home to a rich and highly concentrated wildlife. Some 20,000 mammals of size live there, Including about 20 black rhinoceros, making the crater the best place in Tanzania to see the rhino.
The animals here are less wary of humans and vehicles and as a result, it's easier to watch them from up close where animals roam the lakes, rivers, and hills. Later, you'll ascend and return to your lodge at the rim for dinner and an overnight stay.
