Meet the Chimpanzees in Kibale National Park

You'll have an early morning wake-up call, followed by breakfast and the transfer to the forest headquarters. There is a short introduction and briefing before you depart on the chimpanzee trekking.

The perennially popular primate walk provides the chance to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Kanyanchu’s groups are accustomed to human presence — some have been observed for over 25 years —and the chance of locating them is over 90%.

This biologically diverse region also provides shelter to a further 120 mammals, including several primate species, some elephants, and antelopes. There are around 370 species of birds, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics. The Nahan’s francolin, Cassin’s spinetail, the blue-headed bee-eater, and lowland masked apalis can all be found there.

You'll return to the lodge for a late lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure. You'll have dinner and an overnight stay.

Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You'll have breakfast and depart towards the Queen Elizabeth National Park (Northern sector) about 3-4 hours away. Late morning, you will enjoy a private Kazinga Channel cruise.

The Kazinga Channel is a 32-kilometer-long channel, rich in wildlife, that links Lakes Edward and George. The boat cruise provides a wonderful opportunity to photograph the many animals that come to cool off at the waters’ edge, including lions, buffalos, hippos, elephants, and leopards.

In the afternoon, you'll explore the park with a game drive on your way to Elephant Plains Lodge, where you'll spend the next 2 nights. Perched 941 meters above sea level, high up on the western escarpment of the Albertine rift in the northeast of the park, the lodge offers panoramic views stretching for miles over the huge open grasslands to Lake George. You'll have dinner and an overnight stay.

Lion Tracking and Wildlife Viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Lion Tracking and Wildlife Viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park

In the morning, you will join a local scientific researcher on his daily game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park to locate and record the behavior of a lion pride he is studying.

You'll then continue the wildlife viewing in the afternoon and return to the lodge on time for dinner and an overnight stay. This area has fantastic wildlife viewing, and a huge number of grassland birds and is a major breeding ground for the Ugandan Kob which readily attracts lions and other big cats to the area. The open plains and a large number of wildlife mean photographic safaris are extremely rewarding.

At the far end, the winding Ishasha River forms the natural border between Uganda and DR Congo.

Here, you will find hippos at the shores, lazy drifting with the stream. The birdlife enriches the trees along the river, while curious Colobus monkeys and baboons often come to take a look at the visitors. The highlight of this area, however, is the tree-climbing lion, who likes to take a nap in the upper branches of huge fig trees.
