Day 1

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Today, we set out early, collecting you from your Arusha hotel and heading south to the stunning Tarangire National Park. We arrive at the picnic site by noon, in time for a pleasant lunch. Your afternoon game drive will reveal all the wonders of Tarangire, a national park often referred to as the "Elephant Playground". Herds of up to 300 of these mighty mammals are sometimes seen in the park.

In the Dry season, Tarangire easily rivals other national parks for animal densities. In addition to the herds of elephants, Tarangire is home to buffalo, lion, wildebeest, zebra and gazelle. Lake Burungi’s marshy shores lure these mammals, and the waters attract many beautiful bird species. Look out for giant kingfishers, hoopoes and the delightfully named white-bellied go-away bird. Tarangire is noted for its splendid baobab trees, rolling savannah and acacia woodland.

After an inspiring afternoon amongst the wildlife, we retire to the campsite for dinner and some rest.

Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti has some of East Africa’s finest game areas. Besides being known for its great migration, the Serengeti is also famous for its abundant large predators. The ecosystem is home to over 3,000 lions and 1,000 African leopards. The East African cheetah is also present here.

The name “Serengeti” refers to the word “seringit” in the Maasai language, meaning “endless plains”. The Serengeti is one of the best places to observe prides in their natural environment. Approximately 70 large mammals and 500 bird species are found there. This high diversity is a function of diverse habitats, including riverine forests, swamps, kopjes, grasslands, and woodlands. Blue wildebeest, gazelle, zebra, and buffalo are commonly found large mammals in the region.

Day 4

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater

Before your thoughts turn to home, you will still explore the Ngorongoro Crater. It is often referred to as a wonder of the world, and your early morning game drive shows you why.

First, there’s the volcanic caldera (the world’s largest), full of grassland, forest and swamp, a setting of jaw-dropping beauty. Secondly, the permanent water of the crater floor supports a resident population of more than 25,000 large mammals. Here, you’ll find many of the reasons you chose to come on safari. Elephant, lion, leopard, hyena, jackal, hippo, waterbuck, baboon, and even the rare black rhino find shelter here.

The Maasai share this awesome space with the animals, grazing their cattle in an area that has been a separate conservation area since 1956 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. This harmonious cohabitation of man and beast makes Ngorongoro unique in Tanzania, and your driver-guide will be pleased to explain this incredible coexistence to you.
