Your 5-day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climbing Tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha. You will be greeted by your guide and driven to the Marangu Gate, which serves as the starting point for the Marangu Route. Upon arrival at the Marangu Gate, you will register with the park authorities and complete any necessary paperwork. Here, you'll also meet the rest of your support team, including porters and cooks, who will play a crucial role in ensuring your comfort during the climb. Once all preparations are complete, your trek to Mandara Hut, situated at an elevation of 2,700 meters (8,858 feet), will commence. The hike from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut is approximately km (5 miles) and takes around 4-5 hours to complete. As you make your way through the beautiful rainforest, you will encounter a variety of plant and animal life. The well-maintained trail offers glimpses of towering trees, endemic flora, and the possibility of spotting wildlife such as monkeys and birds.
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Leaving Mandara Hut, you'll venture further into the mountain's diverse ecosystem. The trail will gradually transition from the lush rainforest to the moorland vegetation zone as you ascend to higher elevations. The landscape changes dramatically, with open plains, heather, and unique plant species becoming more prominent.
The hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut covers a distance of approximately 12 km (7.5 miles) and takes around 5-6 hours to complete. The well-marked path offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes, including valleys, ravines, and occasional glimpses of neighboring peaks. As you climb higher, you'll notice a change in altitude, which can affect your body. It's important to maintain a steady pace and listen to your body's cues. Your experienced guide will provide guidance and ensure that the group stays together to ensure safety and a comfortable hiking experience.
Trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
On Day 3, you'll trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut, the final base camp before the summit. This 9km hike takes around 5-6 hours. The trail ascends through alpine desert, with rocky terrain and sparse vegetation. The air gets thinner, and temperatures drop. Maintain a steady pace. Your guide will ensure your safety. At Kibo Hut (4,703m), rest, eat, and prepare for the summit attempt. Acclimatize to the altitude. Organize your gear and dress warmly. Hydrate and rest. It's the final push to Uhuru Peak.
