2 travelers on Start dateNairobi - Samburu National Reserve
07:30 hrs. – Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel, residence, or Nairobi airport. Then we’ll head out in our 4 x 4 Jeep over Kenya’s central highlands enjoying views of small, local coffee, tea, sisal, and pineapple farms. We’ll also pass the imposing form of Mt. Kenya, the pride of our country and its tallest peak. We’ll arrive at the reserve in time for check-in and have lunch.
In the afternoon head out for game drives. A major landmark at the border between Samburu and Buffalo Springs is the Ewaso Ngiro River, a lifeline for the parks’ wildlife. It also creates an unexpected corridor of green forest along its path, breaking up the more arid look of the reserves.
Here we’ll find wildlife from the neighboring reserves gathering to drink at the river’s nourishing banks. The river is also home to hippos, crocodiles, and many birdlife varieties found in the parks.

Full-Day Samburu National Reserve
Enjoy an early morning breakfast as today shall be a game-viewing extravaganza! We shall traverse the Samburu Game Reserve on a full day of unlimited game viewing. Following the path of the Ewaso Ngiro River, we’ll be on the lookout for elephants, buffalo, and some of the more entertaining wildlife like dik-dik, warthog, and the olive baboon. Samburu is also known as one of the two regions where conservationist Joy Adams raised Elsa the Lioness, later made famous in the book and movie, Born Free. Here too, are the Samburu people, closely related to the Maasai, an indigenous, pastoral group, who have inhabited this region.

Samburu Game Reserve - Nairobi
Our final morning in the park will give us opportunities to add more wildlife sightings to our checklist. However, not all of the park’s animal activity is limited to mammals. Samburu hosts over 350 species of birdlife including kingfisher, vulture, guinea fowl, egret, falcon, and eagle. You’ll have plenty to keep watching for on the land, in the springs, and overhead. We’ll enjoy another game drive as we exit the park on our journey back to Nairobi.
Heading back to the city, we’ll break up the drive with a stop for lunch. You'll arrive in Nairobi late afternoon and your driver guide will drop you at your Nairobi hotel or at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back hom.
